The Norman Tel Aviv

About this hotel

General information

The Norman is an intimate hotel in Tel Aviv’s White City, set in restored historic buildings around a citrus garden. The Main House is a 1923 Modernist building of clean lines and wooden shutters; across the garden stands The Pavilion, built in 1925 in an eclectic style with Renaissance touches and oriental details. Inside, the restrained elegance of the 1920s meets the Mediterranean mood of early Tel Aviv, while in the Tower Garden an old water tower rises among jasmine and rosemary.

Much of the hotel’s reputation rests on its cultural life. Public spaces and rooms hold a collection of contemporary Israeli art – painting, sculpture, print, photography and textile – and an art concierge arranges talks by the artists and private visits to nearby galleries and studios. Books are placed throughout the house, a monthly cultural evening takes place in The Library Bar, and the Alena and Dinings restaurants, together with a cellar of rare bottles, have made The Norman one of the city’s culinary addresses.

Location

The hotel sits on a small, leafy square in central Tel Aviv, inside the UNESCO-listed White City and a few steps from Rothschild Boulevard. The beaches are about a 20-minute walk away, and Levinsky Market and the Florentin quarter are within walking distance. Tel Aviv’s international airport is around 30 km away; the hotel arranges airport pick-ups in a luxury car, and its top-level service meets guests right at the aircraft. Valet parking runs around the clock, with a covered underground car park (for a fee and subject to availability).

Spa

The wellness area occupies the third floor of The Main House and is open to every guest. Its treatment room offers Swedish, deep-tissue and jet-lag massages, the last combining back work with reflex points on the scalp and feet. FaceClub facials focus on lymphatic drainage, detox and reducing puffiness of the face and neck, and some beauty treatments can be booked in the room.

Sports & leisure

The Technogym-equipped gym is open 24 hours a day and accessed with the room key. In-house instructors teach private and group yoga – a blend of Hatha and Vinyasa for all levels, in English – including on the pool sundeck, along with private Pilates sessions and personal workouts on the beach. A seven-bottle detox programme of juices and smoothies is made from organic local produce. The concierge plans excursions across Israel – to Jerusalem, the Galilee, the Negev, the Dead Sea and Eilat – as well as hiking routes, culinary tours and winery visits with the hotel’s sommelier.

Restaurants & bars

Food and drink run from first coffee to late evening, backed by a wine list – strong on France and on Israel’s leading producers – that has repeatedly been named the best in the country.

  • Alena – all-day restaurant with a dining room, bar and terrace beneath a palm tree: à la carte breakfasts with Middle Eastern classics such as shakshuka (eggs baked in a spiced tomato and pepper sauce), then a menu shaped by the Galilee and the chefs’ European background – aged meat, fish, seafood, homemade pasta and in-house desserts.
  • Dinings – restaurant on the third-floor terrace: Japanese izakaya-style small plates with European accents, a marble sushi counter, an omakase menu, sake and views over the city to the Mediterranean.
  • The Library Bar – book-lined ground-floor bar open daily from 10:00 to 00:30 for coffee, light lunches, house and classic cocktails, and evening aperitifs with complimentary snacks.

A separate menu is served at the pool, and a Private Dining Room hosts private dinners.

Swimming

The rooftop infinity pool and sundeck look out over the city to the sea and are reserved for hotel guests. The pool opens from mid-April to early November, weather permitting, with a lifeguard on duty and complimentary towels and drinking water. Tel Aviv’s Mediterranean beaches are about 20 minutes away on foot.

Pets

Only service dogs are allowed in the hotel.
