The Drisco

About this hotel

General information

The Drisco is an intimate, adults-only hotel in the American–German Colony, a quiet quarter of historic houses where Tel Aviv meets Jaffa. The stone building went up in 1866 as a hotel for travellers landing at Jaffa's port, and a long restoration has preserved its original architecture along with the murals that tell the story of the house and the colony around it.

Its 42 rooms and suites, spread between the main house and the neighbouring Villa Drisco, are each decorated individually, pairing nineteenth-century detail with contemporary comfort. The restaurant George & John sits at its heart, joined by a rooftop terrace facing the sea, a historic salon with restored murals, a garden and an inner courtyard, a spa treatment room and a gym open around the clock. Reception and concierge are staffed 24 hours a day, and guests are greeted with a welcome drink. The hotel is a member of Relais & Châteaux; guests aged 12 and over are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Location

The hotel stands on a quiet street in the American–German Colony, between Jaffa and central Tel Aviv. The clock-tower square at the edge of Old Jaffa and the lanes of Neve Tzedek are each about 12 minutes away on foot, the Jaffa flea market and the seaside park with its beach and promenade about 13 minutes, and a light-rail station just two minutes. Tel Aviv's international airport is around 23 km away and Jerusalem around 63 km. For a fee, the hotel arranges airport transfers in a chauffeur-driven car, with the driver meeting guests in the arrivals hall.

Spa

Daria Spa is a calm treatment room where experienced therapists offer classic Swedish massage, aromatherapy massage with essential-oil blends, deep-tissue massage, a body peel followed by an aromatherapy massage, and hot-stone massage. Treatments for couples can be booked, and some of the products used in the sessions are on sale.

Sports & leisure
  • The Technogym fitness room is open 24 hours a day with a room key; personal training is available when booked in advance.
  • At ALL Fitness, a small studio in the neighbouring Noga quarter, guests can join group or one-to-one sessions in strength and functional training or vinyasa yoga, at an extra charge.
  • The hotel runs a complimentary hour-long historical walk around the American–German Colony for its guests, on advance registration.
  • The concierge arranges private tours through the lanes of Jaffa and Tel Aviv and suggests walking routes nearby, to Old Jaffa, Neve Tzedek and the seafront promenade.
Restaurants & bars

Dining centres on the restaurant in the historic ground-floor rooms; the kitchen is not kosher.

  • George & John — creative modern Israeli cooking with wider Mediterranean influences, built on seasonal, local produce; breakfast pairs a generous buffet with a hot dish cooked to order, served in the dining room or out on the patio.
  • Rooftop terrace — morning coffee, sunset drinks and light bites with an open view over the Mediterranean.
  • Historic salon — once Jaffa's first alehouse, its walls and ceiling covered in restored painted murals.
  • Private dining floor — beside the restaurant, with One Table, a single long table for intimate gastronomic dinners, and the Private Room for private meals and meetings.
