R48 Hotel and Garden

About this hotel

General information

R48 Hotel and Garden occupies a 1930s building on Rothschild Boulevard, a fine example of the International Style that Tel Aviv knows as Bauhaus. A careful restoration kept its defining details — balconies that wrap around the façade, the narrow vertical “thermometer” windows and a sweeping curved staircase — while a new glass-fronted extension floods the interiors with light. The result holds just 11 suites and studios and two restaurants.

The mood is closer to a private residence than a hotel. Interiors are pared back to white walls, wood and natural stone, every piece of furniture was made for the house, and the suites and public spaces display work by both established and emerging artists. A naturalistic garden, planted to draw butterflies and birds, softens the terraces and the rooftop pool, and the kitchens rely on organic produce brought straight from Israeli farms.

Location

The hotel stands at 48 Rothschild Boulevard, in the very centre of Tel Aviv and within the streets of the White City. Balconies in the original wing look onto the boulevard, and the ground-floor brasserie opens directly to the street.

Spa

Wellness is in the hands of the hotel’s own team, with treatments by appointment. The menu covers massages with premium oils, tailored to each guest, and facials adapted to skin type, which can take place in the garden, beside the pool or in one of the quieter corners of the house.

Sports & leisure

Guests have the rooftop pool and a fitness room. On request the hotel arranges private yoga focused on breathing and flexibility, Pilates for core strength and posture, and one-to-one gym sessions built around strength, endurance or mobility.

Restaurants & bars

Two restaurants and a private dining room share the house, and in-room dining is available.

  • Rothschild 48 Brasserie — a modern street-level brasserie running from lunch into the evening, finished in travertine and pale wood around olive trees and a long bar; the menu shifts through the day, backed by a broad wine list and signature cocktails.
  • The Chef’s Table — an intimate dining room at the heart of the hotel, with the chef’s own take on Far Eastern, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking and paired cocktails, wines or a non-alcoholic pairing.
  • R48 Breakfast — served in The Chef’s Table space: a basket of breads and pastries from the bakery, fine cheeses, fruit salad and fresh juice, followed by a main course chosen from a menu of classics and less expected dishes.
  • Private Dining Room — a room in the historic part of the building for dinners or gatherings of up to 30 guests.
Swimming

The rooftop pool, framed by greenery, looks out over the city and is at its best around sunset.
