About this hotel
General information
Beresheet, part of the Isrotel Exclusive collection, sits right on the rim of Makhtesh Ramon in the Negev highlands. Its buildings are scattered across some five hectares so that each looks out over open, stony desert, and the centrepiece is an infinity pool that seems to drop straight into the crater. Cars stay outside: golf carts carry guests from the car park to the main building, which keeps the grounds quiet.
There are 111 rooms and villas. All 39 ground-level units have their own private pool, while the upper rooms have generous balconies with loungers. Facilities include a restaurant with terraces over the crater, a lobby bar, a seasonal poolside restaurant and a wine room, the Carmel Forest Spa, a tennis court, a small cinema and a shop. For observant guests there is a synagogue and a Shabbat lift, Shabbat timers can be requested for the rooms and the minibars are Shabbat-friendly; glatt kosher meals are prepared on advance order.
Location
The hotel stands at the edge of the small town of Mitzpe Ramon, above the cliffs of Makhtesh Ramon. From the north-eastern corner of the grounds, beside the pool, a trail leads to the Desert Sculpture Park, where more than twenty stone sculptures line the crater rim. Trail maps of the crater are available from the Mitzpe Ramon visitor centre. Parking is free, with four electric-vehicle charging points.
Spa
The spacious Carmel Forest Spa has a sauna, jacuzzi, Turkish bath and relaxation area. Quiet treatment rooms offer more than 30 body, facial and wellness treatments using well-known cosmetic brands: relaxing and balancing massages, shiatsu, reiki, dedicated treatments for men and for expectant mothers, and treatments for couples.
Sports & leisure
The fitness room in the spa complex is open around the clock to guests aged 16 and over, and there is a tennis court. The crater is the real draw: bicycles can be hired at the hotel for self-guided rides on marked trails, and the activities desk arranges walking tours, family jeep tours, horse and camel riding, rappelling, archery and visits to boutique wineries and cheese farms around Mitzpe Ramon. Picnic breakfasts or lunches can be packed for full-day outings. In the evenings the cosy 30-seat cinema screens two popular films.
For children
The Kiddos Club keeps younger children busy with toys and activities during the day, while an interactive room with computer games, PlayStation and Wii caters to teenagers. Babysitting can be arranged with at least four hours’ notice.
Restaurants & bars
The main restaurant cooks with fresh produce from local farms, and there are dedicated dishes for vegetarians, vegans and guests with allergies.
- Rosemarine Restaurant — the main restaurant, its terraces seemingly suspended over the crater: dairy breakfasts, and in the evening the chef’s meat, fish or pasta dishes alongside a buffet of soups, salads and starters
- Lobby Bar — a large lounge with picture windows where ibex occasionally wander past: a dairy menu of fish dishes, cheese platters, salads, labneh (thick strained yoghurt) with caramelised apples and sabich — fried aubergine, egg and tahini in laffa flatbread; cocktails, wine and teas
- ChillOut — a poolside restaurant open in the warmer months: fillet skewers, entrecôte, spring chicken and burgers, plus shakshuka (eggs baked in a spiced tomato sauce), hummus platters and a children’s menu
- Wine Room — an intimate cellar with a selection of wines from the region
Swimming
The heated infinity pool faces straight out over the Ramon crater and the mountains beyond. The pool area is open all year, though the outdoor pool is closed for swimming in January and February. Pets
Pets are not allowed in the rooms or public areas; service animals are the exception.
