InterContinental Dublin

About this hotel

General information

InterContinental Dublin is a five-star hotel in Ballsbridge, a quiet, leafy district just south of Dublin’s centre, where Victorian red-brick houses and embassies line the avenues. Around two acres of gardens surround the hotel, and its 215 rooms and suites are classic in style, with soft neutral tones, marble bathrooms and views of the city, the sea or the mountains.

It pairs a city break with resort comforts: an ESPA spa, a 14-metre indoor pool with sauna and steam room, and a gym are open to every guest. Dinner is at Simmons, a contemporary Irish restaurant looking onto the garden; afternoon tea is served in The Reading Room, and the evening can close with a rare whiskey at The Whiskey Bar. The hotel also hosts conferences and weddings.

Location

The hotel stands on Simmonscourt Road in Ballsbridge, right beside the RDS exhibition grounds, with Herbert Park, the Aviva Stadium (about 1 km) and Sandymount village, with its long beach and promenade, close by. Grafton Street and Temple Bar are about 10 minutes away by car (4–4.5 km), or roughly a 30-minute walk. Sandymount DART station is under five minutes on foot, and city buses stop nearby. Dublin Airport is 16 km away, about 30 minutes by taxi; the Aircoach bus runs from the terminals to the hotel, and the concierge can pre-book a chauffeur. Drivers have the choice of valet or self-parking and four EV charging points.

Spa

The Spa is an intimate space with four treatment rooms working with ESPA products. Its menu covers results-focused facials, restorative massages with aromatherapy and a dedicated jet-lag recovery treatment. The 14-metre pool, a sauna, a steam room and a whirlpool complete the facilities.

Sports & leisure

Guests have free use of the wellness area, with its indoor pool, sauna and steam room, and of the gym with cardio and strength equipment. For walks, Herbert Park is nearby, and Sandymount beach and promenade lead on to the sea wall out to Poolbeg Lighthouse. The concierge books city tours, car hire and chauffeur-driven trips.

Restaurants & bars

Dining here is built around Irish produce and seasonal menus, and both the lounge and the restaurant look out over the garden.

  • Simmons — contemporary Irish restaurant serving dinner from seasonal menus, overlooking the hotel gardens, in a room inspired by Europe’s grand cafés
  • The Lobby Lounge — the hotel’s all-day lounge for morning coffee, lunch, dinner and cocktails, with drinks served on the Garden Terrace when the weather allows
  • The Reading Room — an intimate room for daily afternoon tea with pastries, sandwiches and scones, and for private dining
  • The Whiskey Bar — rare whiskeys and classic cocktails, a natural stop before dinner
Swimming

The heated 14-metre indoor pool, filled with natural light and lined with loungers, has a whirlpool alongside and is free for hotel guests; children swim at set times.

Pets

Pets are not accepted; guide and assistance dogs are the exception.
