About this hotel
General information
The Oberoi, Lombok is a secluded resort on Lombok’s north-west coast, where almost ten hectares of tropical gardens run down to the white sand of Medana Beach. Its pavilions and villas follow the island’s traditional way of building — thatched roofs, carved timber, work by local artists, lily-pond courtyards and sunken marble baths. Offshore lie the clear waters of Medana Bay and the Gili Islands, with coral reefs and sea turtles, and in the evening the sun drops behind Bali’s Mount Agung.
Days revolve around garden and sea: a 33.5-metre infinity pool among the palms, a private jetty onto the resort’s own house reef, a beach club and a PADI dive centre, and a spa of open-air pavilions in walled gardens. Meals are taken in the open or beneath thatch, and once a week the amphitheatre lays on a candlelit dinner with Sasak music and dance. The beach and gardens host small weddings, and the Melali meeting room takes up to 60.
Location
The resort sits on Medana Beach near Tanjung, on the north-west coast of Lombok, an island less than 150 km east of Bali. The Gili Islands are about 15 minutes away by boat and Senggigi 31 km (around 45 minutes by car), while Lombok International Airport is 66 km, or about 1 hour 45 minutes by road; the resort arranges airport transfers on request. Rinjani National Park, where professional guides lead treks on Mount Rinjani, is within reach.
Spa
The Oberoi Spa is a set of open-air, thatched treatment pavilions, each in its own walled garden and fitted for couples with two massage beds, a private steam room and a relaxation area. The menu covers Balinese and Western massages tailored to the guest, body exfoliations and detoxifying wraps, Omorovicza facials, the Indian Essentials ritual that opens with a neem-leaf footbath, and Oberoi signature combinations. Instructors lead yoga and breathing sessions, private ones included. The spa is reserved for resort guests.
Sports & leisure
Most activities start from the beach and the resort’s jetty:
- beach club: snorkelling, sea kayaking and paddleboarding are included for guests, with equipment and instruction
- on-site PADI dive centre: beginner and advanced courses, refresher dives and trips to the reefs around the Gili Islands
- half-day guided snorkelling trip to one of the Gili Islands, over coral reefs where giant sea turtles are often seen, with time on the beach
- sunset cruise on a traditional wooden outrigger, with views of the Gili Islands and Mount Agung, canapés and drinks for two
- guided horse riding along the nearby shore, for beginners and experienced riders alike
- tennis court, table tennis, bicycles and an air-conditioned fitness centre
Restaurants & bars
Every venue opens onto the garden or the ocean:
- Sunbird Cafe — open-air café with ocean and garden views and an outdoor kitchen; Indonesian, Indian and Western dishes for breakfast and lunch
- Lumbung Restaurant — evening restaurant in an open-sided thatched pavilion with all-round garden views; Indonesian, Indian and Western cooking and themed dinners
- The Amphitheatre — a weekly candlelit dinner facing the ocean, with its own à la carte menu and Sasak music and dance
- Tokek Bar — thatched open-air bar for cocktails, wines, Lombok coffee and tapas, looking over the pool and the ocean at sunset
- private dinners: candlelit on Medana Beach, in the Pandanus Garden, and Begawe, a communal dinner in the herb garden (begawe is the Sasak word for a shared feast)
- 24-hour in-room dining
