About this hotel
General information
AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach occupies its own stretch of Waecicu beach outside Labuan Bajo, on the edge of Komodo National Park. It has 205 rooms and suites, and every one of them faces the sea. The interiors are pared back: floor-to-ceiling glass, hand-finished teak, marble bathrooms, locally woven textiles and a palette taken from the Flores landscape around it.
This is a large, fully serviced resort, with seven restaurants and bars, a five-room spa, two pools above the beach, a swimming deck on the jetty and a small private island reached by a daily boat. Its Marine Discovery Center is restoring the reef off the jetty, where 525 m² of coral have been transplanted and some 120 fish species have returned. The same jetty is the starting point for boat trips into the islands of the park.
Location
The resort lies on Waecicu beach near Labuan Bajo, at the western end of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara, the gateway to Komodo National Park. Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo, with direct flights from Bali and Jakarta, is about 7 km away, roughly ten minutes by car, and the hotel arranges transfers. Rinca, Kalong and Pink Beach are one to two hours by boat from the resort jetty.
Spa
AYANA Spa is an intimate spa of just five treatment rooms, pairing deep Balinese pressure with Japanese precision and local ingredients. Signatures include the Inielika Stone Massage with warm volcanic basalt from Flores, a traditional boreh, a warming paste of rice powder, cloves, cinnamon and ginger, and a massage with warm ginger herbal pouches to ease the body after an active day. Group and private yoga sessions take place on a wooden deck over the water.
Sports & leisure
The sea and the islands set the agenda. From its own jetty the resort runs boat trips into Komodo National Park: a hike up Padar, Pink Beach and a guided visit to the Komodo dragons; swimming with manta rays and sea turtles; snorkelling over coral reefs where young reef sharks gather; and open-water or sunset fishing. A glass-bottom boat, Lako Taka, looks down on the reef, and the three-deck Lako Sae sails on a sunset dinner cruise.
Closer to the resort there is guided or private snorkelling, stand-up paddleboarding, a kayak or paddleboard nature trail, a coral trail and coral planting with a marine biologist. On land, a sunrise climb up Waecicu hill gives a 360-degree view, a 10 km bike ride runs at sunrise or sunset, and outings go to Batu Cermin cave, the hidden cave pool at Rangko and the hill village of Melo for its local dances. Yoga and coached boxing are offered in groups or one to one.
For children
The air-conditioned Kids Club is open daily from 9am to 5pm for children of roughly 2 to 12, with a ball pit, games station, mini billiards, a pirate ship and a library. A weekly programme covers pizza and pasta making, cupcake decorating, tote-bag painting, tie-dye and kids’ yoga, and most of it is complimentary. A children’s pool sits next to the club, and a nanny can be arranged through the concierge.
Restaurants & bars
Seven venues range from a grill on the sand to a rooftop bar.
- KISIK Seafood & Grill — seafood cooked over open coals on the beach: lobster, prawns, reef fish
- HonZEN — Japanese: sushi and sashimi, ramen, teppanyaki at the counter and a sake list
- RINCA — all-day dining a few steps from the sand, with breakfast and Southeast Asian dishes
- UNIQUE Rooftop Bar — cocktails at the highest point of the resort, facing the sunset
- Naga Bar — tiki-style cocktails at the end of the jetty, over the water
- Mesa Lobby Lounge — coffee, tea and pastries on the top floor of the lobby, with island views
- Pool Bar — Indonesian and Western plates and cocktails by the pool
For couples the hotel sets up private dinners on a floating deck, picnics on its own island and lobster dinners by the sea.
Swimming
The resort has its own stretch of white-sand Waecicu beach on the Flores Sea. On a terrace above the beach, two infinity pools come with loungers, umbrellas and food and drink service, and steps lead straight down to the sand. The wooden jetty offers open-sea swimming, with sunbeds on the deck and complimentary life jackets. A complimentary boat runs daily from 8am to 6pm to the resort’s small private island and its quiet beach.
