About this hotel
General information
Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta is a long-established address in central Jakarta: an International Style tower in the Thamrin business and diplomatic district, beside the roundabout of the Welcome Monument. Its architecture and interiors pair modern restraint with references to the cultural heritage of Nias and the Batak of Tapanuli, while marble, teak and silk lend the rooms their Indonesian and Oriental accents.
There are 272 rooms — 210 rooms and 62 suites — each looking out either over the monument or across the skyline. The Mandarin Oriental Club Lounge on the 21st floor serves guests of the club categories, and an outdoor pool sits in tropical greenery on the fifth floor. The Cantonese restaurant Li Feng, a cake shop, a spa that blends Javanese massage with Chinese meridian theory and a ballroom for 800 make the hotel as suited to business trips as to a few days in the city.
Location
The hotel stands on Jalan M.H. Thamrin, at the heart of Jakarta’s business and diplomatic district. The Welcome Monument is a one- to two-minute walk away and the Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia malls around five minutes on foot; the National Monument is 10–15 minutes by car and the old town of Kota Tua 20–30 minutes. The drive from Jakarta’s international airport takes 30–60 minutes depending on traffic, and the hotel arranges private transfers on request.
Spa
The spa combines Javanese massage techniques with Chinese meridian theory, beginning each visit with a short consultation and a scent-testing ritual. The menu runs from a Royal Javanese massage with deep thumb pressure and a Balinese massage with warmed lemongrass and lemon oils to hot-stone therapy, the Borneo Signature exfoliation with white glutinous rice, apricot kernel oil and chamomile, Inner Balance drawing on Traditional Chinese Medicine, Sleepfulness for deeper rest and Tech Detox for screen-weary heads, eyes, necks and hands — alongside couples’ rituals, a treatment designed for men, express facials and poolside foot therapy.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre is equipped with Technogym machines and free weights, and its studio holds stretching and high-intensity classes; the outdoor pool is alongside. The concierge team also runs a few experiences of its own in the city:
- a guided walk through the old town of Kota Tua and the story of Jakarta’s past
- a hands-on batik workshop, from first wax line to finished cloth, in the pavilion of the Textile Museum
- a 90-minute private tour of the Jalan Surabaya flea market, hunting for Javanese puppets, batik and Balinese carvings
- a treasure hunt for younger guests, solved through trivia clues
For children
Younger guests can join a supervised treasure hunt, working through trivia-based clues as they set off on their quest.
Restaurants & bars
Two restaurants, a poolside bar, a cocktail bar and a cake shop are joined by round-the-clock in-room dining:
- Cinnamon — all-day dining on the lobby level, reworking Indonesian recipes alongside international dishes, with a show kitchen and live cooking stations
- Li Feng — Cantonese cuisine in interiors inspired by the old spice trade between China and Jakarta, with three private dining rooms
- MO Bar — original and classic cocktails, mocktails and small plates, with music carrying on late into the night
- Azure — a fifth-floor poolside bar in tropical greenery, serving smoothies, fresh juices, cocktails, salads, burgers and sandwiches
- Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop — cakes, scones, sandwiches, breads and chocolates from its own show kitchen, plus cakes made to order
In-room dining runs 24 hours and includes Li Feng signatures; Cinnamon, Azure and in-room dining each have a dedicated children’s menu.
Swimming
The 15-metre outdoor pool on the fifth floor is framed by a tropical garden and the towers of the city centre, with the Azure bar serving light dishes and drinks alongside.
