About this hotel
General information
Capella Ubud opened in June 2018 in untouched rainforest and rice fields less than half an hour from Ubud. The concept is the work of architect and designer Bill Bensley, who took his cue from the camps of 19th-century European explorers: spacious cottages are styled as tents, and antique furniture and period objects sit alongside every modern comfort.
Each tent has a saltwater pool and a terrace facing the Keliki valley and the sacred Wos River. Beyond the restaurants, a bar by the main pool, spa and gym, the resort offers jungle walks, evenings by the campfire and open-air cinema. It is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World; there is a library, Wi-Fi, a 24-hour personal butler, concierge, laundry, car hire and a shuttle to central Ubud. Weddings and honeymoon programmes can be arranged.
Location
The hotel lies in the jungle near the village of Keliki, 20 minutes by car from central Ubud and 15 minutes from a helipad. The drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport takes about 1 hour 45 minutes.
Spa
Auriga Spa has three pavilions, where treatments combine Balinese tradition with local natural products.
Sports & leisure
The 30-metre outdoor pool is filled with salt water. The Armory gym has modern equipment and a yoga and Pilates studio. Mountain biking (bikes are available to hire), jungle treks, classes in Asian and Balinese cooking, chocolate and coffee, film screenings, introductions to local customs and excursions are all on offer.
For children
Children aged six and over are welcome.
Restaurants & bars
Dining is spread across several very different spaces:
- Mads Lange — European cooking in a two-storey Balinese-style restaurant
- Api Jiwa — traditional and modern Asian barbecue
- Mortar and Pestle — poolside bar with light bites
- Camp Fire — evenings by the fire with hot chocolate, marshmallows, local legends and old films
- Officers Tent — a lounge and library for morning coffee or an evening cocktail
Private dining and in-tent dining are available.
