General information
Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape is an adults-only retreat of sixteen villas hidden among jungle and rice terraces in Bali’s interior. The word Escape in its name is meant literally: complete seclusion and a slower sense of time. The Balinese-style villas are oriented so that every corner looks out to the forest, seven mountain peaks, fireflies at night and the island’s dawn mists.
The kitchen works with produce from local farmers and the resort’s own organic garden, spa rituals draw on ancient Indonesian tradition, and a panoramic pool looks out over the jungle. Free Wi-Fi, concierge, laundry and bicycle hire are on hand; weddings and honeymoon programmes can be arranged.
Location
The resort lies in the Payangan district of central Bali, next to the village of Buahan and 25 km from Ubud. Denpasar International Airport is 48 km away, around two hours by car.
Spa
Toja Spa — the name means “water” — occupies a pavilion with open terraces surrounded by tropical growth. Treatments are rooted in ancient Balinese tradition and local natural ingredients.
Sports & leisure
The outdoor pool faces the mountains and jungle. Yoga, cycling and walks through the surrounding countryside, Balinese cooking classes and excursions are offered.
For children
The resort welcomes guests aged 18 and over.
Restaurants & bars
Open Kitchen, with a panoramic terrace above the jungle, cooks Balinese dishes from farm produce, 70 % of it plant-based. The Botanist bar, looking over the forest and rice terraces, mixes cocktails from botanicals grown in the organic garden and pours house kombucha, local beer and cider. In-villa dining is available.
Rooms
The sixteen villas, or bales, follow authentic Balinese architecture on a “no windows, no doors” principle that blurs the line between room and nature. Terraces with private pools take in the jungle, the rice terraces and the mountain peaks.
Villas have air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a safe, a minibar, tea and coffee facilities, a bathroom with bathtub, a hairdryer and toiletries.
