General information
Alila Villas Uluwatu opened in 2009 on a clifftop plateau 100 m above the Indian Ocean. The villas are spread across 14 hectares of tended gardens and pools, and the architecture, by the Singapore practice Woha Designs, pairs clean contemporary lines with local natural materials and wide-open ocean views.
Every villa has its own pool, and the resort adds a spa, a gym, a large landscaped pool, restaurants and a bar on the cliff edge. There is also a library and meeting space, and a dedicated pavilion for wedding ceremonies.
Location
The resort sits on a plateau of the Bukit Peninsula on Bali’s southern coast, 15 minutes by car from Jimbaran Bay and Uluwatu Temple. Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar is about 30 minutes away.
Spa
Spa Alila has five treatment pavilions, with a gym alongside.
Sports & leisure
A spacious outdoor pool is the focus for swimming and lounging, and the gym covers everyday training.
Restaurants & bars
Three restaurants and a bar, all with ocean views:
- Quila — a gastronomic restaurant with an inventive, chef-led menu
- Cire — simple seasonal cooking from organic produce, some grown on site, ranging from Asian dishes to international classics
- The Warung — traditional Indonesian and Balinese food, also served in the villas
- Sunset Cabana — a cliff-edge bar made for sunset
Rooms
The 67 villas are each designed around their own patch of landscape, and all have a private pool and a terrace facing the Indian Ocean. Walls are built of Batu Palimanan stone, roofs are clad in volcanic lava, and the bamboo ceilings and rattan details are made on Bali; open layouts let the sea breeze through.
Villas have air conditioning, TV, DVD player, telephone, internet access, a safe, a minibar, a bathroom with bathtub and indoor and outdoor showers, a hairdryer and toiletries.
One Bedroom Pool Villa
A villa with a king-size or twin beds, a bathroom with bathtub, shower and separate his-and-hers areas, a terrace and a private pool. Sleeps up to three.
Two bedroom Cliff Edge Villa
A villa right on the cliff edge with two bedrooms, a large open-plan living and dining room, a bathroom with his-and-hers areas and a terrace.
Three Bedroom Hillside Villa
A hillside villa with three bedrooms, spacious open-plan pavilions, a bathroom with his-and-hers areas and a terrace with a private pool.
Three Bedroom Cliff Edge Villa
A three-bedroom villa on the cliff edge or hillside, with a bathroom with his-and-hers areas and a terrace with a private pool.
