About this hotel
General information
Taj Falaknuma Palace crowns the Falaknuma hill, 609 metres above sea level, and its terraces and courtyards look out across the whole of Hyderabad. The name translates as 'mirror of the sky'. Completed in the late 19th century, the building blends Italian and Tudor architecture, with marble staircases, fine stucco work, chandeliers, a wood-panelled Durbar Hall hung with velvet and a vast historic library.
Its 60 rooms and suites were restored using original craft techniques and authentic materials. Guests arrive by horse-drawn carriage at the foot of the grand staircase, are welcomed with a shower of petals and are looked after by butlers throughout. At sunset the palace historian leads a walk through the halls, and evenings come with live traditional music.
Location
The palace stands on the Falaknuma hill above Hyderabad, in the state of Telangana. Hyderabad airport is around 25 minutes away by hotel car, depending on traffic, and the hotel arranges pick-ups and drop-offs on advance request. The concierge plans half-day and full-day outings across the city, including Charminar, Golconda Fort and the old bazaars.
Spa
J Wellness Circle offers Indian and international therapies in the Ayurvedic tradition, using its own products made from natural ingredients, Indian herbs and essential oils. The menu includes the Vishram full-body massage, the deep-muscle Sammardana, Narikela coconut and Masala spice scrubs, facials based on tulsi, neem and rose, and the Pada Snana pedicure and Hast Snana manicure, alongside yoga and meditation sessions.
Sports & leisure
A large outdoor pool sits among the heritage courtyards and lawns, with a 24-hour fitness centre and yoga and meditation sessions. The palace historian leads an evening heritage walk, while the butlers and concierge shape tailored outings around Hyderabad focused on art, culture or shopping, including a day trip to Golconda Fort and historic tombs. The halls, gardens and terraces serve as backdrops for photo shoots, and private dinners can be set up in the Southeast Garden.
Restaurants & bars
Dining moves between Hyderabadi recipes and Italian and international cooking; personalised menus can be served in distinctive spaces around the palace, and in-room dining runs around the clock.
- Adaa – Hyderabadi cuisine, from biryanis to kebabs, for lunch and dinner;
- Celeste – Italian and international dishes in a hall of frescoes and gilded mirrors, for lunch, dinner and afternoon tea;
- Gol Bungalow – an open-air terrace restaurant overlooking the city and the gardens, for breakfast and dinner;
- Hookah Bar – a bar beneath antique chandeliers with cocktails, single malts, fine wines and cigars, open in the evening.
Swimming
There is no beach; guests swim in the large outdoor pool set among the palace courtyards.
Pets
Pets are not accommodated.
