About this hotel
General information
The Oberoi Udaivilas stretches along the shore of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, directly across the water from the City Palace. The resort is set in more than 12 hectares of gardens, and its architecture draws on traditional Rajasthani design: domed pavilions linked by covered walkways, inner courtyards, reflection pools among the lawns, marble screens and mosaics.
Rooms and suites are dressed in a natural palette with bright touches of colour and Rajasthani patterns; many have their own terraces, and some come with heated pools, private or semi-private. Butler service covers every room, mornings can begin with yoga in the gardens, and evenings end by the lake as the City Palace lights up opposite. The Asmi by Oberoi spa, several restaurants and a lakeside bar complete an unhurried, quietly assured resort.
Location
The resort sits on the shore of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Rajasthan, facing the City Palace. The city centre is about 8 km away (around 20 minutes by car) and the railway station about 6 km. Udaipur airport is roughly 26 km away, a drive of 30–50 minutes, and the hotel arranges airport transfers on request. The resort can also be reached by its own boat across the lake – a short crossing the hotel itself recommends as the best way to arrive.
Spa
Asmi by Oberoi builds its programmes on five pillars – movement, nutrition, bodywork, breathwork and mindfulness. The menu covers signature Oberoi rituals combining several treatments, body scrubs and wraps, sensorial treatments to release tension, ILA facials and a wide choice of Eastern and Western massages; there is a steam room and a spa pool reserved for adults. Instructors lead private yoga sessions with breathing and meditation techniques. The spa is open daily from 8 am to 7.30 pm for resident guests only, and treatments are best booked a day ahead.
Sports & leisure
The heated 27-metre main pool is open to all guests, and the 24-hour fitness centre, with cardio and weight machines, sits in the spa building overlooking the gardens. Yoga and meditation take place daily in the gardens, bicycles can be ridden along the resort's paths, and there are walking trails. Among the experiences the hotel offers are a cooking session on spices and Rajasthani cuisine, a miniature-painting lesson at a local art school, a thekri workshop where craftsmen inlay tiles, vases and furniture with glass, pottery with a village artisan and henna painting. A guided walk begins with a boat ride across the lake to stone steps by the old city and continues through its narrow lanes past old mansions.
For children
The hotel runs its own activity programme for children: magic and puppet shows, block printing on fabric, leaf art, cooking with an Oberoi chef, drink-mixing lessons, pottery and treasure hunts.
Restaurants & bars
Beyond the restaurants, the hotel arranges dinners in a lakeside pavilion to live traditional music and private dinners for up to four beneath a carved dome by the pool, both looking across to the City Palace and the island palace of Jag Mandir.
- Suryamahal – a restaurant beneath a dome painted with sky and clouds, serving Western and Indian dishes from breakfast to dinner;
- Chandni – the open-air terrace beside Suryamahal, with views of the lake and the City Palace, candlelit canopied tables and live traditional music at night; open from October to March;
- Mewar by Vineet – Indian dinners drawing on the cooking of the Mewar region: millets, pulses, foraged greens and dishes slow-cooked over coal or in clay pots;
- The Bar – arches and domes with views of the gardens and the lake, pouring gin, martinis, margaritas and cocktails; daily from noon to midnight;
- The Promenade – an open-air bar on the shore of Lake Pichola, for resident guests only, with aperitifs and nightcaps, snacks from the grill and tandoor, and sunset over the water.
