About this hotel
General information
Rambagh Palace stands in spacious gardens in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. It was built in the first half of the 19th century as a guesthouse and later became a palace residence. Hand-carved marble jali screens and sandstone balustrades adorn the building, and Mughal-style gardens of lawns and walks surround it.
Today the palace has 78 rooms – 45 rooms and 33 suites – and butlers on hand around the clock. There are five restaurants and bars, among them Suvarna Mahal in the former ballroom, with its gilded mirrors and frescoes, and Steam, a bar set in a restored railway carriage beside a vintage steam engine. Guests can join heritage walks through the palace, and Kathak classical dancers perform every evening.
Location
The palace lies in Jaipur, close to the city's main shopping streets and historic monuments, including Hawa Mahal, the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar observatory. Jaipur's international airport is about 30 minutes away by car, depending on traffic; the hotel arranges airport transfers on request, and the concierge and travel desk can organise local transport.
Spa
J Wellness Circle offers Indian therapies built on Ayurvedic principles, using its own natural products made with herbs and essential oils. The menu includes Nidra, a relaxing full-body massage; Pehlwan Malish, the vigorous massage of Indian wrestlers; champi head massage; Pada Mardana foot massage; Indian aromatherapy; massage with heated glass cups; Posha and Aksha scrubs and wraps; facials with neem, tulsi, rose or magnolia; and manicures and pedicures. Couples can book Mangal Snan, a bathing ritual with spices, herbs and oils, or Soma, a candlelit aromatherapy massage, while the Soundarya and Sukha programmes combine several treatments over a few hours.
Sports & leisure
The palace has a large indoor pool and a heated outdoor pool, a 24-hour fitness centre, a jogging track and a tennis court, with yoga sessions led by an instructor on the lawns each morning. Croquet and kite flying take place on the lawns, a horse-drawn carriage tours the grounds, and polo matches can be watched at the adjacent polo ground. Guided heritage walks trace the palace's history, Kathak dancers perform every evening, and local artisans teach block printing and lac craft. Outings include a drive through Jaipur in a vintage car with a chauffeur-guide, a half-day tour of Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal, a full-day trip to Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort, a leopard safari in the Jhalana reserve at the foot of the Aravalli hills, and a blue-pottery workshop in Sanganer, 60 km from the city.
For children
Young guests can join lively cookie-baking sessions led by the chefs and indoor and outdoor games such as table tennis, croquet and tennis. Older children can take part in the blue-pottery workshop in Sanganer.
Restaurants & bars
The palace has four restaurants and a bar, and private dinners can be set in the Gazebo in the gardens or in the moonlit Chandni Chowk courtyard.
