About this hotel
General information
RAAS Jodhpur is a boutique hotel inside Jodhpur's Walled City, directly below the ramparts of Mehrangarh Fort. At its core is an 18th-century haveli, a traditional townhouse, around which four historic buildings and three contemporary ones are gathered. Local craftsmen restored the old rose-red sandstone structures with traditional lime mortar, keeping carved stone panels, arches from the former stables and whole original façades. The contemporary blocks use the same stone in pared-back modern lines and are placed to frame views of the fort.
Everything turns towards a quiet courtyard and a large pool. Darikhana, the haveli's late-18th-century guesthouse, is now an open-air dining terrace, while Baradari, a twelve-pillared pavilion from the mid-19th century, has become the restaurant at the centre of the hotel. The old stables hold snug alcoves for reading. There are 40 rooms and suites, and more than 70 % of the materials and labour for the hotel came from within 30 km.
Location
The hotel sits in the lively north-eastern quarter of Jodhpur's Walled City in Rajasthan, at the foot of 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort, which rises some 120 m above the city; almost every room looks out at its walls, lit up at night. Next door is a square around an 18th-century stepwell, carved in rose-red sandstone. Much of the Blue City, the Clock Tower market and the silver bazaar lie within walking distance or a short auto-rickshaw ride.
Spa
The spa is run with the natural skincare brand Ma Earth, pairing therapeutic techniques with plant-based ingredients, and occupies one of the restored historic sandstone buildings. The hotel also offers Ayurvedic programmes that combine traditional Ayurvedic therapies with yoga, tailored to each guest, alongside an Ayurvedic menu.
Sports & leisure
Within the hotel are a temperature-controlled swimming pool, the spa and a Gem Palace jewellery boutique. The concierge puts together day itineraries around Jodhpur and arranges trips out of town.
- cookery classes with the hotel chef and food tours of the markets;
- early-morning visits to Mehrangarh Fort with an audio guide, and the Flying Fox zipline, six lines across the fort;
- guided early-morning walks in a rocky desert park below the fort, looking at wildlife and plants;
- intermediate-level horse rides 40 km from the city, lasting 2–3 hours;
- half-day trips to the Osian oasis in the Thar Desert, about 90 minutes away, for camel treks over the dunes, a sunset dinner and folk dancing;
- board games in the hotel's shaded alcoves.
Restaurants & bars
Every restaurant faces Mehrangarh Fort, and the kitchens cook with organic produce, some of it from the chef's own garden.
- Baradari – all-day dining in the pillared pavilion, from Rajasthani specialities to Thai, Mediterranean and other international dishes;
- Darikhana – open-air evening dining on a terrace above the old stables, with spices hand-ground at a 200-year-old shop in Old Delhi;
- The Stepwell Café – three levels above the stepwell, serving European and Indian dishes, coffee and tea at lunch and dinner, reached from the hotel through its own door;
- The Stepwell Hotel Rooftop – a rooftop restaurant open all day, with Indian and international cooking, grills and tapas, lit by candles at night;
- In-room dining – Indian and international menus served around the clock.
Swimming
There is no beach; a large temperature-controlled pool lies at the heart of the hotel, framed by its historic and modern buildings.
