About this hotel
General information
The Oberoi Amarvilas sits 600 metres from the Taj Mahal, the UNESCO-listed 17th-century white-marble mausoleum with its fine inlay of semi-precious stone. The resort takes its cue from Mughal palace architecture: terraced lawns step down to reflection pools, fountains play between the pavilions, and the gardens are softly lit after dark. All 102 rooms and suites look out, unobstructed, across to the marble domes of the monument.
Inside, Mughal motifs meet modern comfort – gilded domed ceilings, crystal chandeliers, marble, hand-knotted rugs and furniture made for the hotel. A butler is on call around the clock, dinner can be served on a private balcony or under the stars beside cascading water, and the hotel’s own golf buggies carry guests to the Taj Mahal.
Location
The hotel stands on Taj East Gate Road in Agra, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, 600 metres from the Taj Mahal – two or three minutes by golf buggy – and about 15 minutes from the city centre. Agra airport is 14 km away (around 40 minutes), the railway station 7 km, and Delhi’s international airport 230 km, roughly four hours by car; Jaipur is 246 km away. The UNESCO-listed city of Fatehpur Sikri is an hour’s drive. Airport transfers can be arranged by the hotel. The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays.
Spa
The Oberoi Spa is reserved for resident guests and draws on Eastern and Western traditions: a range of massages, sensorial treatments that combine massage techniques with sensory elements, body exfoliations and wraps, ILA facials and the signature Oberoi Experiences combinations. A couples’ treatment suite looks out to the Taj Mahal, and there is a steam room and a beauty salon. Instructors lead yoga and breathing sessions, private classes included.
Sports & leisure
A 24-metre heated pool is lined with loungers and parasols, and the gym inside the spa is open around the clock to resident guests, with treadmills, cross-trainers, exercise bikes, free weights and a multi-gym.
- the hotel’s golf buggy to the Taj Mahal, 600 metres away;
- a 45-minute pietra dura workshop with Agra’s master craftsmen, setting coloured stone into marble in the technique that decorates the Taj Mahal;
- yoga with an instructor, including private classes;
- a vow-renewal ceremony in traditional Indian dress;
- trips to Fatehpur Sikri and Agra’s other monuments, arranged by the concierge.
For children
Babysitting can be arranged on request.
Restaurants & bars
The restaurants and lounge face the Taj Mahal, and private dinners are set up for resident guests.
- Bellevue – all-day dining with an Italian soul: hand-rolled pasta, sourdough pizza, Pan-Asian and Indian dishes, and tasting menus with paired wines, indoors or alfresco;
- Esphahan – an evening Indian restaurant built around the tandoor, with soft flatbreads, recipes in the Mughal tradition and live traditional music among candlelit tables; children from eight years;
- The Lounge – open from early morning until midnight, with Taj Mahal views through tall windows or from the open-air terrace, a crystal chandelier and a gilded dome, and afternoon tea;
- dinner on the room’s balcony or under the stars beside cascading water – a four-course menu or an Indian thali, served by the butler.

The 24-metre outdoor pool is heated and finished in Mughal style, surrounded by loungers, sun parasols and a relaxation area.
