About this hotel
General information
The Reykjavik EDITION is a city hotel on Reykjavík's Old Harbour, right beside the Harpa concert hall, with views over the harbour to Mount Esja and the Snæfellsjökull glacier. Its interiors are warm and understated: ash and pale grey oak, furniture made to order, copper details, faux-fur rugs and pieces by local craftspeople, with bathrooms kept in a monochrome palette.
There are 253 rooms, 27 of them suites including a sixth-floor penthouse; in most rooms the bed faces a floor-to-ceiling window, and a few have their own terrace. The hotel is built to draw the city in for the evening, with Tides for seafood, a bakery-café, a fireside lobby bar, the hidden cocktail bar TÖLT and The ROOF on the seventh floor. A spa with a hammam and treatments shaped by Icelandic landscapes and a round-the-clock gym complete the picture.
Location
The hotel stands in central Reykjavík by the Old Harbour, next to the Harpa concert hall and a few steps from Laugavegur, the main shopping street. Keflavík Airport is about 45 minutes away by car; the concierge arranges a private car, and taxis wait at the terminal. Reykjavík Airport, used for domestic and private flights, is about eight minutes by car, and the concierge can book a transfer there too. The Blue Lagoon is within driving distance, and valet parking is available for guests.
Spa
The Spa at The Reykjavik EDITION has a hammam, sauna, steam room, power showers, a hot tub and a relaxation lounge with a bar that serves smoothies, detox elixirs and teas by day and turns treatments into a prelude to a night out after dark. The menu draws on Icelandic landscapes: the EDITION signature massage with an oil carrying the Le Labo Black Tea scent; Uruz, a hot-stone massage followed by a hammam session with a salt scrub, body mask and clay face mask; Endurnýjun, which combines dry brushing, an algae wrap, a facial and a scalp massage; and facials with the Icelandic skincare line BIOEFFECT. The spa is open to guests aged 18 and over.
Sports & leisure
The 24-hour gym on the lower-ground floor is equipped with Matrix machines, free weights, yoga mats and exercise balls, with towels, headphones and refreshments provided. The concierge helps plan trips, and the hotel's own city guide suggests whale watching in Faxaflói Bay in season, a swim at Sundhöll Reykjavíkur, the city's oldest indoor pool, or an evening at Harpa. From the terrace of The ROOF the northern lights can be seen on clear nights in the darker months, and on bright summer nights it looks out over the mountains and the ocean.
Restaurants & bars
The restaurants and bars run from the ground floor to the roof:
- Tides — the main restaurant, with its own entrance from the harbour, cooking Icelandic seafood and local meat simply in the Nordic way; breakfast is served here too, with skyr, waffles and hot dishes à la carte.
- Tides Café — a bakery-café next door with locally roasted coffee, fresh pastries, sourdough and rye sandwiches, and food to take away.
- Lobby Bar — a lobby bar around an open-flame fireplace, pouring Icelandic craft beers, cocktails with local touches and wines by the glass alongside bar snacks.
- TÖLT — a small, hidden cocktail bar named after the distinctive fourth gait of the Icelandic horse, with a focus on local spirits.
- The ROOF — a seventh-floor bar with mountain and ocean views, an all-black interior and a large wrap-around terrace open in season; bar bites, comfort food and brunch.
In-room dining is available from morning until midnight.
