About this hotel
General information
Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest occupies an Art Nouveau palace on Széchenyi István Square, directly facing the Széchenyi Chain Bridge. It is a striking Secession landmark on the Danube: wrought-iron peacock gates open onto a lobby under a glass ceiling, laid with more than two million mosaic tiles and lit by a dramatic chandelier. Stained glass, ornamental ironwork and mosaic floors run through the whole building.
There are 179 rooms, 19 of them suites, decorated in an Art Deco style, and many look out over the Danube to Buda Castle and the Fisherman's Bastion. The palace holds the French brasserie KOLLÁZS, the lobby cocktail bar MÚZSA, a spa with a fifth-floor pool and a fitness centre that takes up the entire top floor. Celebrations and weddings are held in the Gresham Room, an Art Nouveau ballroom with views of the bridge and the castle.
Location
The hotel sits in the historic heart of Budapest, on the Pest bank of the Danube at the foot of the Chain Bridge. St Stephen's Basilica is about 500 m away, a seven-minute walk, the river cruise docks are a similar distance, and Andrássy Avenue is close by. Budapest Airport is 24 km away, about 30 minutes by car; the concierge arranges car and limousine transfers. Valet parking and self-parking are available.
Spa
The spa spreads over two levels, with five treatment rooms including a couples' room, a relaxation room, and separate saunas and steam rooms for men and women. Its menu of 26 treatments – massages, facials, scrubs and wraps, nail and beauty care – pairs current techniques with traditional Hungarian rituals. The signature Touch of the Earth uses lavender, grapeseed oil, salt and Hungarian moor mud from the skincare house Omorovicza. Massages can also be given in guests' suites, and the spa shop stocks swimwear, Omorovicza products and pieces by local makers.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre, with cardio and strength equipment, crowns the top floor of the palace, is open around the clock for hotel guests and looks out towards Buda Castle and the Chain Bridge. Personal trainers lead sessions indoors and outdoors. The concierge can also arrange:
- private Pilates classes, an early-morning run through Buda and tennis with a coach
- walking tours of Buda and Pest, architecture tours, a visit to the Hungarian State Opera and an evening round of the bar scene of District VII
- a Danube cruise on a private Venetian-style speedboat, a hot-air balloon flight or a helicopter tour
- day trips to Lake Balaton and the Danube Bend, and wine tours to Tokaj and other Hungarian wine regions
- cooking classes (Hungarian dishes, strudel, chimney cake), chess lessons and Herend porcelain painting workshops
- truffle hunting with trained dogs in the countryside, followed by dinner outdoors
- day passes and transfers to the Széchenyi and Rudas thermal baths, 10–15 minutes away by car
For children
Young guests are greeted with welcome gifts, KOLLÁZS has a children's menu and the concierge library has a dedicated chess corner. Babysitting can be arranged on request. The concierge plans family itineraries suited to the children's ages – Budapest Zoo, City Park, Margaret Island, the chairlift in the Buda hills or an interactive science museum.
Restaurants & bars
Two venues of quite different character, plus round-the-clock in-room dining:
- KOLLÁZS – Brasserie & Bar — a contemporary French brasserie with Hungarian specialities and views of the Chain Bridge and the Danube, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch, with a bar open late and its own patisserie baking cakes to take away
- MÚZSA — the lobby cocktail bar, with inventive cocktails, dishes from across Asia and live music from Thursday to Saturday evenings
- Afternoon tea at MÚZSA on Saturdays and Sundays — pastries and savouries on hand-painted Herend porcelain to piano, harp or cimbalom
- In-Room Dining — a 24-hour menu
The hotel's sommelier also hosts private tastings of Hungarian wines.
Swimming
The 12 m indoor infinity-edge pool lies on the fifth floor within the spa, lit by daylight through tall windows and kept at about 30 °C, with loungers and daybeds around it and a whirlpool at about 38 °C alongside. It is open all year and free for hotel guests.
