InterContinental Real Guatemala

About this hotel

General information

InterContinental Real Guatemala is a large city hotel in Zona 10, the business district of Guatemala City. Its 15-storey building holds 239 rooms and suites with panoramic windows, and on the roof a heated pool looks out to volcanoes on the horizon. The public spaces double as a gallery of Guatemalan art, with exhibitions that change through the year.

Food and drink run to five restaurants and a rooftop bar, from Japanese and Mediterranean cooking to a French pâtisserie pouring Guatemalan coffee. Guests in club rooms and suites have the Club InterContinental lounge, with breakfast in the morning and cocktails in the evening, while the Presence Spa & Wellness Center and a 24-hour gym take care of downtime. The hotel is equally set up for business: 16 meeting rooms and the Gran Salón Roble ballroom, which holds up to 1,200 guests.

Location

The hotel stands on 14 Calle in Zona 10, Guatemala City's business district. Guatemala City's international airport is 6.5 km away; the hotel does not run its own airport transfer, and there is covered, secured parking on site. Oakland Mall is about 1 km away, the Popol Vuh Museum within 2 km, Plaza de la Constitución in the historic centre about 6 km and the pedestrian district of Paseo Cayalá about 8 km. Antigua Guatemala makes a full day out by car.

Spa

The Presence Spa & Wellness Center is a small spa just a lift ride from the rooms. Its menu covers massage, body scrubs and wraps, facials, foot baths, manicures and pedicures, and there is a sauna. Treatments can also be booked in the room.

Sports & leisure

The gym is open around the clock, with treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bikes, a stair stepper and free weights. The heated rooftop pool comes with a whirlpool. For working trips there is a 24-hour business centre, a concierge is on hand and a doctor can be called on request. Close by are the Popol Vuh Museum, with its collection of pre-Hispanic and colonial art, Plaza de la Constitución and the Metropolitan Cathedral in the historic centre, and the pedestrian streets of Paseo Cayalá with their cafés and shops. For a full day, Antigua Guatemala, a UNESCO World Heritage town of cobbled streets and colonial architecture set against volcanoes, is within reach by car.

Restaurants & bars

Five restaurants and a rooftop bar each keep their own menu, and in-room dining runs in the evening.

  • The Market — breakfast and lunch buffets with vegetarian, gluten-free and local dishes, build-your-own pizzas and burgers and a full salad bar; Sunday brunch, and a pet-friendly terrace with a menu of its own
  • Tanoshii Japanese Cuisine — classic and contemporary Japanese cooking at lunch and dinner, with sushi, rolls, sake and vegetarian and vegan dishes; a private table seats groups of up to eight
  • Picasso — Mediterranean cuisine from Italy to Turkey, with some dishes finished at the table
  • Saint Honoré — French pâtisserie and café with Guatemalan coffee, croissants, petits fours and house-made pastries; pets are welcome
  • Maya Lounge — international cooking that blends several traditions, sharing plates and cocktails, served from mid-afternoon into the late evening
  • Blu — rooftop pool bar with views over the city and the volcanoes, international cocktails and a weekend brunch
Swimming

The heated outdoor pool sits on the roof, and from its loungers and parasols the outline of the volcanoes fills the horizon. A whirlpool sits alongside, and towels are provided at the pool.

Pets

Dogs and cats of up to 14 kg are welcome, one per room, for an additional fee. A pet bed, food and water bowls and drinking water are provided; pets should not be left alone in the room. The terrace at The Market and the Saint Honoré café both welcome guests with pets.
