Los Pasos Boutique Hotel & Spa

About this hotel

General information

Los Pasos Boutique Hotel & Spa sits behind a quiet facade on a cobbled street in the historic heart of Antigua Guatemala, a UNESCO World Heritage city ringed by volcanoes. The house keeps its colonial character – a courtyard with a fountain, a garden and handcrafted detail – while contemporary touches bring warmth and lightness to the interiors. From the rooftop terraces the view runs across the tiled roofs of the city to the volcanoes beyond.

It is a small, intimate hotel with a handful of room and suite categories, its own restaurant, a bar, a wine cellar and a compact spa built around a thermal circuit. Guests come for the calm it offers in the middle of a lively old town and for a concierge who shapes each itinerary, from a walk through the churches and plazas of Antigua Guatemala to volcano hikes, coffee farms, Lake Atitlán and the archaeological site of Tikal.

Location

The hotel stands on the corner of 9 Calle Oriente and Calle de Los Pasos, in one of the traditional old quarters of Antigua Guatemala and a few steps from its colonial churches and convents. On request the hotel arranges private car transfers between Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala, with a Spanish- or English-speaking driver, as well as helicopter transfers from Guatemala City’s international airport straight to Antigua Guatemala.

Spa

Los Pasos Boutique Spa is a small spa open both to hotel guests and to visitors from outside. Its programmes are built around a thermal circuit for which the whole spa is reserved for one guest or a couple: steam room, cold showers, dry sauna and a whirlpool, followed by a massage. The menu covers relaxing and deep-tissue massages of 60 or 90 minutes, reflexology, a 20-minute treatment for tired feet and a short facial; signature programmes pair a deep massage and facial massage with a tasting of cacao tea, or a hot-stone massage with a jade gua sha facial. Most treatments can be booked for couples.

Sports & leisure

The concierge arranges private outings with a guide and transport, and can plan a full itinerary for any day of the stay.

  • A climb of Acatenango – a demanding ten-hour hike with views from the summit across to Volcán de Fuego.
  • A hike on Pacaya volcano of around six hours, of moderate difficulty.
  • A guided walk through Antigua Guatemala taking in its main historic monuments, plazas and colonial churches.
  • The viewpoints above the city on a three-hour outing by ATV.
  • A nearby coffee farm: a walk through the plantation, the journey of the bean from harvest to cup, and a tasting.
  • A hillside avocado farm with a guided visit, lunch, avocado ice cream, a zip line, suspension bridges and a climbing wall.
  • A jade workshop with a museum visit, where each guest makes a piece of jewellery.
  • A full day at Lake Atitlán, with Panajachel, lunch and views of the volcanoes over the water.
  • Trips to Tikal and other Maya archaeological sites in the Petén region.
  • A guided tasting of Ron Zacapa rum at the hotel, by reservation.
Restaurants & bars

Restaurant Los Pasos, set within the hotel’s colonial walls, gives traditional Guatemalan recipes and dishes from around the world a contemporary reading, cooking with corn, cacao, coffee and fresh herbs; three-course tasting dinners are also served. The wine cellar holds a selection of wines from around the world and doubles as an intimate speakeasy-style bar, and the hotel also has a separate bar and rooftop terraces.
