Camino Real Antigua

About this hotel

General information

Camino Real Antigua is a sizeable hotel in the historic part of Antigua Guatemala, a UNESCO World Heritage city of cobbled colonial streets ringed by volcanoes. Its rooms run along colonial-style courtyards and gardens, and in one of the inner patios a pool with a whirlpool area sits among timber columns and shaded verandas.

There are 86 Deluxe rooms, nine two-level loft suites and two Suite Real suites of 250 m². The hotel has the Las Velas restaurant, a spa, a fitness room and an underground car park. It makes an easy, well-organised base for walking the old town, with breakfast served from early morning and meals available in the rooms as well.

Location

The hotel stands on 7a Calle Poniente in Antigua Guatemala, among the cobbled streets of the colonial city. The hotel itself points guests to Central Park, the Santa Catalina arch on Calle del Arco and the lookout on Cerro de la Cruz, where the town spreads out below the Agua, Fuego and Acatenango volcanoes. Guests arriving by car drive straight into the hotel's underground car park.

Spa

The hotel has a spa where guests can book treatments after a day in town.

Sports & leisure

A fitness room with cardio and strength machines and free weights covers training, and the courtyard pool is the place to unwind. Antigua Guatemala is a natural starting point for hikes up Volcán de Pacaya and for day trips to Lake Atitlán with a boat ride on the water.

Restaurants & bars

Las Velas is open from 6 am to 10 pm. Mornings bring Guatemalan and American breakfasts, egg dishes, pancakes, waffles, smoothies and herbal teas, with a breakfast buffet at weekends that adds crêpe and waffle stations. Lunch and dinner mix Guatemalan dishes such as pepián, Mexican-style tacos and quesadillas, Italian pasta and pizza, grilled meats and seafood, while the afternoons are given to antojitos — tamales, chuchitos and enchiladas. The drinks list runs to cocktails and mocktails, wines, champagne and spirits, and the kitchen also serves the rooms.

Swimming

The pool lies in an inner courtyard among tropical planting, with a whirlpool area, a timber deck and seating under parasols. There is no sea nearby.
