About this hotel
General information
Calabash is a family-run, all-suite boutique hotel on the south coast of Grenada. Its 36 suites are spread through manicured botanical gardens shaded by coconut palms that run down to a calm sandy beach on Prickly Bay. A member of Relais & Châteaux and still owned and managed by the family, it feels more like a private estate than a resort: staff know guests by name, and quiet is the house rule.
Food is the hotel's great strength. Three restaurants work with local farmers and fishermen and with produce from the family's own organic estate, L'Esterre. Breakfast is served à la carte on the beach or on the suite balcony, afternoon tea is laid out daily, and the chef's canapés arrive in each suite every evening. Children are welcome from the age of 12, with no age limit between 21 December and 4 January.
Location
The hotel sits in L'Anse aux Épines on Grenada's south coast, in the parish of St George, directly on a sheltered beach on Prickly Bay. Grand Anse Beach is about 15 minutes away by car and Grenada's international airport a short drive; the hotel arranges private return airport transfers.
Spa
The Spa at Calabash, for guests aged 16 and over, centres on holistic treatments. Its Zero Miles Spa menu uses Grenadian ingredients from island artisans, among them honey and moringa facials and a moringa deep-tissue back massage. There are also treatments built on the island's cocoa to hydrate and revive the skin, and plant-based Sleep Rescue and Jet Lag Recovery rituals to reset the body clock after a long flight.
Sports & leisure
The watersports centre on the beach lends snorkelling gear, kayaks, Hobie Cats, stand-up paddleboards and pedalos free of charge, and the Scuba West Indies dive centre on the same beach runs small-group dives, courses and snorkelling boat trips. The fitness suite is open around the clock with Cybex equipment and a Peloton bike, and the floodlit hard courts are used for tennis and pickleball, with private lessons on request. Yoga and Pilates classes take place each week in the pavilion on the lawn (private yoga can be arranged), boules and croquet are played on the grass, and the weekly programme adds cooking and cocktail demonstrations and a guided garden walk. The concierge organises hikes, including Mount St Catherine, waterfall trips, visits to spice gardens and cocoa estates, chocolate-making sessions, the Saturday market in St George's and boat trips to the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park.
Restaurants & bars
Three restaurants are built on island produce and the day's catch; Rhodes Restaurant, Nori and The Beach Club welcome diners aged 12 and over:
- Rhodes Restaurant — fine dining beneath a living canopy of flowers and vines, contemporary cooking from Grenadian produce, a Sunday Roast menu and an evening dress code
- Piano Lounge — drinks before and after dinner at Rhodes
- Nori — Japanese restaurant by the main pool: sushi rolls, raw-bar dishes and small plates for sharing, with original cocktails
- The Beach Club — restaurant and bar on the sand for breakfast and for lunches of tapas, salads and larger plates of the local catch, with fresh juices from the family farm; two dinner evenings a week, Caribbean Night and Grill Night, come with live music
- Private dining — candlelit dinners on the canopied jetty, on the beach or in the suite
Breakfast is included on every plan; half board adds an à la carte dinner in the restaurants, and all inclusive also adds lunch at The Beach Club, cocktails, house wine by the glass, local beers, soft drinks and the minibar.
Swimming
The white-sand beach lies in a protected bay with calm water, well suited to swimming and paddleboarding; its loungers, like the pool, are reserved for hotel guests.
