General information
Elounda Mare, a member of Relais & Châteaux, sits above the clear water of the Aegean in a fragrant, carefully kept garden. It is an intimate hotel of 80 rooms, some in the main building and the rest in free-standing bungalows. Light-toned interiors pair contemporary design with a traditional Greek sensibility — natural wood and stone, elegant furniture, antiques — and balconies and terraces look across Mirabello Bay and the gardens.
Food is taken seriously: eight restaurants and four bars span Cretan, Mediterranean, French, Greek and pan-Asian cooking, backed by a cellar of more than 700 labels. A Six Senses Spa, a children’s club, tennis courts, water sports and diving centres, and nearby golf round out the stay. The hotel also has conference rooms and a gift shop, and arranges weddings and honeymoon programmes.
Location
The hotel stands on the north-east coast of Crete, 2 km from Elounda and 9 km from Agios Nikolaos. Heraklion International Airport is 70 km away.
Spa
The 2,200 m² Six Senses Spa is located at the sister resort, Porto Elounda Golf & Spa Resort. It has 23 treatment rooms, a hammam, tepidarium and caldarium, private thalassotherapy rooms, a hair salon and several spa areas, with face and body treatments drawing on both Eastern and Western techniques.
Sports & leisure
Facilities include an outdoor pool, two tennis courts, three gyms, a water sports centre offering windsurfing, water-skiing, canoeing and pedalos, a diving centre, a games room and pitches for team sports. Pilates, stretching and yoga classes are held, and personal trainers are available. A 9-hole golf course lies 500 m from the hotel, and an 18-hole course is 30 minutes’ drive away.
For children
The children’s club covers more than 700 m² indoors and over 3,000 m² outdoors. A dedicated building serves little ones from six months to five years, while 5–12-year-olds have a water park, a playground, a ball court and a garden. Teenagers aged 13–17 have a club of their own. Dance lessons and an Arsenal-endorsed football camp are on offer, and the restaurant has a children’s menu.

Restaurants and bars are spread between the garden, the pool and the shore, and nearly all of them face the sea.

Of the 80 rooms, 44 are in the main building and 36 are free-standing bungalows with private seawater pools. All are decorated in traditional Greek style with antique pieces and open onto balconies or terraces overlooking the sea and gardens.
Each room has air conditioning, a direct-dial phone, an LCD satellite TV, a CD and DVD player, internet access, a safe, a minibar, a hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers.
