The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin

About this hotel

General information

The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin stands on Potsdamer Platz in the heart of the capital, with the green expanse of the Tiergarten alongside and the Brandenburg Gate a seven-minute walk away. Its interiors look back to the Golden Twenties, when Berlin thrived on film, cabaret and bold artistic ideas. Art Deco is given a contemporary reading here: geometric patterns, dramatic floor-to-ceiling headboards, hand-selected furniture in a 1920s spirit and nods to the city’s cinematic past.

There are 303 rooms and suites, among them Club accommodation with access to the Club Lounge on the 10th floor overlooking the Tiergarten. POTS reinterprets German cooking, The Curtain Club keeps the 1920s mood alive with cocktails, and The Lounge serves afternoon tea. A wellness area with a pool and saunas looks after downtime, while nine event rooms and a 910 m² Grand Ballroom for up to 900 guests host celebrations and conferences. In summer, beehives on the roof supply the honey served at breakfast, and the hotel holds the Green Key eco-label.

Location

The hotel’s address is Potsdamer Platz 3, where Mitte meets the Tiergarten district. The Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the government quarter, the Berlin Philharmonie and the Neue Nationalgalerie are all within walking distance, and the Tiergarten park begins a few steps away. Potsdamer Platz station, served by U-Bahn and S-Bahn lines, is close by. Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) lies about 25 km away, and the hotel arranges limousine transfers on request, electric cars included. Drivers will find on-site parking, a valet service and charging points for electric vehicles.

Spa

The wellness area brings together an indoor pool, two saunas including a Finnish sauna, a steam room, a heated stone bench and a spacious relaxation room. Massages and facials are given by a visiting spa therapist and are booked through the concierge. Among the hotel’s signature experiences, Golden Interlude combines yoga, aromatherapy and afternoon tea.

Sports & leisure

The fitness centre is open around the clock, with cardio equipment including elliptical trainers, exercise bikes and treadmills, strength machines and free weights. Runners can join The Aristocrat Loop, a guided run through central Berlin. The hotel’s signature experiences also include a private cruise across Berlin’s lakes on a boutique houseboat, an expert-led tour of the city’s 1920s architecture, a market walk with the chef followed by a private dinner, a champagne masterclass and a styling day with a personal style advisor. Club guests can borrow bicycles free of charge.

For children

Through the Ritz Kids programme, young guests can have a Cozy Corner set up in the room: a tipi filled with books and a travel diary for drawing, recording memories and solving puzzles, with a plush lion called Roary as the reward for a completed crossword. It is offered on request and subject to availability, so it is best reserved in advance. Cots are available, and for families the hotel combines a Deluxe Suite with one to three Deluxe Rooms, or a Carlton Club Suite with a Deluxe View Room — these ensembles are booked by phone or email.

Restaurants & bars

The hotel’s restaurant and bars carry the theme of 1920s Berlin:

  • POTS — a modern take on German cuisine with more than 200 wines, focused on German producers; breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • The Lounge — afternoon tea with seasonal blends, light dishes and cocktails, and a glass of champagne raised every evening at 6 pm to the nightlife of the Golden Twenties
  • The Curtain Club — a cocktail bar behind the curtains, with drinks inspired by the 1920s and live music on selected evenings
  • Cigar Club — a relaxed retreat for aficionados, with around twenty handmade cigars and whisky pairings
  • Secret Champagne Garden — an open-air summer garden for champagne and cocktails
  • Club Lounge — the 10th-floor lounge for Club guests, with culinary presentations throughout the day

The hotel pours 28 champagnes by the glass, a champagne brunch is held on the first Sunday of each month, and in-room dining runs around the clock.

Swimming

The wellness area has a heated indoor lap pool with towels provided and a relaxation area; it is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm.

Pets

Dogs weighing up to 20 kg are welcome for a fee. The Pawfect Stay arrangement provides a dog bed with a blanket, bowls, treats, wet wipes, waste bags and a plush lion, and the concierge team has put together a Berlin guide for dog owners listing vets, groomers, dog sitters and pet shops. The Tiergarten, ideal for walks, is just a few steps away.
