About this hotel
General information
Schlosshotel Kronberg occupies Schloss Friedrichshof, the country residence that Empress Victoria, widow of Emperor Frederick III, had built for herself on the Taunus slopes outside Frankfurt. Four years in the making and completed in 1893, the house blends German and Italian Renaissance motifs with English Tudor Gothic and local half-timbering, and it has received guests as a hotel since 1954.
Indoors the mood is that of an English country house: 58 rooms and suites, no two alike, are furnished with antiques and paintings, and the historic core of the building is listed. The English-style park around the castle now holds an 18-hole golf course threaded between the old trees. Salons and the terrace host lunches, fine-dining dinners, weddings and private celebrations, and a guided tour once a month tells the story of the house and its founder.
Location
The castle sits in its own park in Kronberg im Taunus, a small climatic health resort on the slopes of the Taunus, at Hainstrasse 25. Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Mainz are a short drive away; Frankfurt Airport, about 20 km off, is roughly 30 minutes by car, and a direct suburban train reaches the Frankfurt trade fair grounds in 18 minutes.
Spa
Wellbeing is kept low-key: massages are given in the guest’s own room, and beauty treatments take place in the Beauty Cottage, both arranged through reception.
Sports & leisure
Golf comes first, with an 18-hole course laid out in the castle park itself. Through its partnership with Porsche Center Hofheim the hotel can hand over a Porsche on site for a drive through the Taunus, a favourite excursion area. Once a month a guided tour explores the castle’s architecture and the life of Empress Victoria.
Restaurants & bars
Dining follows the seasons, moving between the summer terrace and the fireside rooms.
- Schlossrestaurant Victoria — the castle restaurant for the cooler months: a seasonal lunch and fine-dining dinners of three to six courses.
- Enrico d'Assia — summer restaurant on the castle terrace serving Mediterranean classics and light seasonal dishes.
- Frederick's Lounge — traditional bar with a fireside lounge and a terrace lounge over the park: tea, coffee and small plates by day, classic cocktails in the evening.
- Champagne breakfast — buffet of regional specialities, cheeses and pastries with egg dishes cooked to order, served by the fire or, in summer, on the terrace.
