About this hotel
General information
Hotel Bayerischer Hof stands on Promenadeplatz in the heart of Munich. It was conceived in 1839 as a first-class hotel for the Bavarian capital, designed by Friedrich von Gärtner, court architect to King Ludwig I, and received its first guests in the autumn of 1841. It has grown considerably since, yet kept its character: the same family has run it since the late 19th century, and the ensemble includes the neoclassical Palais Montgelas of 1811 with its formal salons.
Today there are 337 rooms, 74 of them suites, five restaurants and six bars, and 40 banquet and function rooms, among them an art deco ballroom under a sliding glass roof. The Blue Spa sits above the rooftops, and the house also has its own cinema, a comedy theatre, a jazz club and a shopping arcade of galleries and boutiques. The rooms were shaped by different designers, from Axel Vervoordt to Siegward Graf Pilati, so hardly two are alike.
Location
The hotel stands at Promenadeplatz 2–6 in the Old Town, at the start of a pedestrian shopping arcade and beside the banking district. The Frauenkirche, the Viktualienmarkt, the opera, the Residenz and the Hofgarten are all within walking distance; the nearest stations are Marienplatz (S-Bahn and U-Bahn) and Odeonsplatz (U-Bahn). Munich main station is 1 km away and Munich Airport 35 km (about 45 minutes by car); the hotel arranges shuttles and limousines.
Spa
The Blue Spa occupies the top four floors of the hotel — 1,300 m² looking out over Munich’s rooftops, with interiors by Andrée Putman. It has a 6.5 × 14.5 m pool beneath a sliding glass roof, saunas, a steam bath, a solarium, a sun terrace and a gym, along with a broad menu of massages and treatments. The Arnoldy and team hair salon and a BABOR beauty salon are in the house, and the Blue Spa Bar & Lounge with its winter garden serves light food and drinks.
