Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin

About this hotel

General information

Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin occupies Pariser Platz directly opposite the Brandenburg Gate, where the Unter den Linden boulevard begins and the government quarter lies a few steps away. For well over a century the Adlon name has stood for the Berlin grand-hotel tradition, and the house remains one of the capital’s best-known addresses — a natural setting for balls, receptions and formal dinners.

Its 385 rooms and suites are spread between the main house on Pariser Platz and the Adlon Residence wing on Behrenstraße. Life gathers in the lobby around the Elephant Fountain, where coffee and champagne are served to piano music, and guests are looked after by the Ladies and Gentlemen in Red, hosts who know the hotel and the city inside out. There is a gourmet restaurant, Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer, a brasserie with a terrace facing the Gate, the three-level Adlon Spa by Resense and a wellness area with an indoor pool, plus two ballrooms and 16 function rooms for events.

Location

The hotel stands at Unter den Linden 77 in Mitte, right on Pariser Platz: the Brandenburg Gate is 100 m away, the Tiergarten 300 m, the Reichstag 700 m and Museum Island 2 km. Brandenburger Tor U-Bahn and S-Bahn station and the stop for bus 100 are at the door, and the main railway station is three minutes away on the U5. Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is about 45 minutes by taxi or public transport (the FEX express to the main station, then the U5). The concierge arranges transfers by limousine or a spacious van, and a car park with direct access to the hotel has charging points for electric cars.

Spa

Adlon Spa by Resense covers around 900 m² over three levels, with eight treatment rooms and three private spa suites fitted with a bathtub or Jacuzzi and a steam shower or sauna. Massages, facials and body treatments use 111SKIN and Babor products, and a relaxation room with loungers and drinks serves for breaks between them. The separate Adlon Pool wellness area adds an indoor pool, a whirlpool, a Finnish sauna and a bio sauna, a Starpool steam bath, an ice fountain and experience showers ranging from a cold cascade to warm rain. A hair salon completes the spa. The saunas are open to guests aged 18 and over.

Sports & leisure

The air-conditioned gym is equipped with Technogym cardio and strength machines, and personal training sessions can be booked in advance at the pool or spa reception. Bicycles are available to hire for exploring the city, and the Les Clefs d’Or concierge team arranges Berlin tours, private museum visits and tickets for theatre, opera and concerts. The Tiergarten, the Reichstag and Museum Island are all within walking distance.

For children

Under the Kempinski Kids programme, young guests find child-size bathrobes and slippers in the room. The highlight is the Adlon Adventurers Pass, a passport that leads children through five stations around the hotel — from mixing and naming their own alcohol-free cocktail at the lobby bar to hunting for little hidden elephants among the flowers of the florist’s atelier — collecting a stamp at each. Babysitting can be arranged on request, connecting rooms suit families, cots are provided free of charge, and children are served their own hot chocolate at the Adlon Afternoon Tea.

Restaurants & bars

Dining and drinking revolve around Pariser Platz and the lobby with its Elephant Fountain:

  • Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer — gourmet restaurant on the Bel Etage overlooking the Brandenburg Gate: classic French haute cuisine with Asian accents, menus of up to six courses and a wine list of more than 1,600 labels; open in the evening from Wednesday to Saturday
  • Brasserie Quarré — modern French and German cooking, a daily lunch dish, the Adlon Champagne Brunch and a large summer terrace facing the Gate
  • Bel Etage — salons above the lobby where the champagne breakfast buffet is laid out daily and the Adlon Afternoon Tea is served from Thursday to Sunday
  • Lobby Lounge & Bar — coffee, champagne, light snacks and in-house pâtisserie beside the fountain, with piano music
  • Elephant Bar & Cigar Lounge — unusual cocktails, rare spirits and cigars from the humidors, to a soundtrack from the 1920s
  • Adlon To Go — coffee shop on Unter den Linden for coffee, sandwiches and the signature Adlon cake

Room service runs around the clock, and a smart casual dress code applies in the restaurants and bars.

Swimming

The Adlon Pool wellness area, open daily, has a heated indoor pool measuring 11 m by 6 m, a whirlpool and a cold-water pool, along with a rest area with loungers and a pool bar serving fresh juices, fruit and light dishes. Entry is from age 16; children of hotel guests may swim when accompanied by an adult.

Pets

Only dogs are accepted — one per room, ideally up to 25 kg and 50 cm at the shoulder, with larger dogs considered on request. Dogs must be announced in advance and a flat fee is charged per stay. They are not allowed in the restaurants, bars, terrace, spa, pool or gym, must be kept on a lead in public areas and may not be left alone in the room. Certified guide and assistance dogs are exempt from these restrictions and from the fee.
