Vazisubani Estate

About this hotel

General information

Vazisubani Estate is a 19th-century palace estate in Kakheti that now houses a 19-room boutique hotel. Around the house lie 35 hectares of vineyards and a 1.5-hectare historic park of century-old acacia, oak, ash and oriental thuja. The original façade has been carefully restored, and inside, the building’s period details sit alongside Victorian-era antiques bought at British auction houses and a quiet, contemporary scheme of soft tones and heritage textures.

Wine is the estate’s reason for being. Red, white and amber wines, qvevri styles among them, are made only from its own grapes: Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Kisi, Khikhvi and Kakhuri Mtsvane. The historic 19th-century marani is open for sommelier-led tastings, dinners are served out among the vines, and the park, with its lawns and shaded walks, holds a gentle microclimate of its own even through the dry Kakhetian summer.

Location

The estate stands in the village of Vazisubani in the Gurjaani municipality, in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus, looking out over vineyards and the Alazani Valley. The drive from Tbilisi takes about two hours.

Sports & leisure

Days here revolve around the vineyards and the park:

  • sommelier-led tastings of the estate’s wines, qvevri wines included, in the historic marani and the tasting room;
  • vineyard walks that explain qvevri winemaking;
  • sunrise yoga, hikes and picnics in the park;
  • bicycles for exploring the grounds;
  • open-air cinema and evenings around the bonfire;
  • the estate shop, set in a 19th-century castle building, with wines, spirits and gifts.
Restaurants & bars

Cooking at the estate is seasonal and Kakhetian, with every dish conceived alongside its own wines:

  • Glass-walled restaurant — contemporary Kakhetian cuisine on menus that change with the seasons, using produce from the estate’s gardens and henhouse, with views over the vineyards and the Alazani Valley.
  • Vineyard dinners — seasonal dishes and estate wines at a table set among the vines.
  • Multifunctional space patio — seasonal plates outdoors, coffee or a glass of Georgian wine, looking onto the vineyards and the park.
