Conrad Bora Bora Nui

About this hotel

General information

Conrad Bora Bora Nui occupies the south-western tip of Motu To’opua, an islet in the Bora Bora lagoon set between the main island and the outer reef. Unlike most of the low-lying motu, this one rises into a green hill, which gives the resort three distinct settings: villas on stilts over the lagoon, villas in a coconut grove at the edge of the sand, and suites on the hillside looking out across the water. Most categories come with a private infinity pool.

The Polynesian legend of Hina, goddess of the moon, and Hiro runs through the resort, from the decor to its evening performances. Guests have four beaches, a large infinity pool above the lagoon, Hina Spa on the hilltop, a complimentary kids’ club and a team of personal concierges. The private islet of Motu Tapu is reserved for resort guests, and a floating helipad allows arrivals, departures and sightseeing flights by helicopter.

Location

The resort sits at the south-western end of Motu To’opua, ten minutes by boat from Bora Bora’s main island. Flights from Faa’a International Airport on Tahiti take about 45 minutes; on landing, a hotel representative meets guests and a 25-minute boat ride brings them from Bora Bora Airport to the motu, which is reachable only by water. A scheduled boat links the resort with Vaitape, the island’s main village, and guests can also arrive by helicopter at the resort’s own floating helipad.

Spa

Hina Spa crowns the hill above the lagoon and takes its name from Hina, the Polynesian moon goddess. It has three double treatment villas with whirlpools, four single treatment rooms, an open-air area for couples’ treatments and a separate cabin, Hina Views, looking towards Mount Otemanu and the island of Maupiti. Skincare is by the Paris house Codage, with formulas tailored to each guest; signatures include the Puna Vai Ora massage with hot and cold stones, and black lava stones feature in the rituals. There are separate changing areas for men and women, and treatments can also be arranged in the villa.

  • A 24-hour fitness centre, daily group classes, morning stretching, group runs and personal training
  • A 2.5-km running track, bicycles, beach volleyball, billiards and table tennis
  • Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, including friendly races
  • Guided lessons in paddling a traditional outrigger canoe (va’a)
  • Snorkelling straight from the shore over coral gardens; marine programmes with Sea Narea and Manta Trust experts, including a manta ray outing led by a marine biologist
  • Polynesian cultural sessions: tastings of local produce, weaving, and making coconut milk and Tahitian raw fish
  • Helicopter tours over Bora Bora and the neighbouring islands
  • Weddings, proposals and private celebrations, including on Motu Tapu
For children

The complimentary Tamari’i Kids Club welcomes children aged 5–12 every day, with creative workshops, outdoor games and Polynesian activities indoors and out; under-fives may join with a parent or guardian. Every restaurant has a children’s menu, there is a playground, and cots and childcare can be arranged. The King Lagoon View Suite offers connecting rooms for families.

Restaurants & bars

The resort’s restaurants and bars draw on Polynesian, Mediterranean and Chinese cooking, with several evenings given over to local culture.

  • Banyan — modern Chinese cooking from Canton, Fujian, Ningbo and Hainan: seafood, dim sum and wok dishes, served at dinner beside an old banyan tree, with a private room for up to 10
  • Tamure Beach Grill — on the beach under a pandanus roof: Mediterranean and Polynesian dishes from an open kitchen and stone oven, seafood and grills; on set evenings, a Polynesian dinner with a performance of the Hina and Hiro legend
  • Upa Upa Lounge Bar — above the lagoon, with a glass floor and terrace: crafted cocktails, wines, sushi, sashimi and nigiri at sunset, plus weekly live music
  • Tarava Pool Bar — a swim-up bar beside the infinity pool for tropical cocktails and light daytime dishes

Beyond the venues, breakfast can arrive at the villa by outrigger canoe, the Ahi Ma’a feast sees meat, fish and vegetables cooked for up to 12 hours in a traditional earth oven, and picnics and dinners are served on Motu Tapu.

Swimming

The resort has four white-sand beaches, including a long stretch of sand along the lagoon, and coral gardens can be reached snorkelling straight from the shore. A large infinity pool faces the lagoon, with private cabanas and a swim-up bar. The overwater villas have steps from the terrace straight into the lagoon, and most categories have a private pool. Five minutes away by boat, Motu Tapu is reserved for resort guests; once the private beach of the Tahitian queen Pomare IV in the 19th century, it now hosts picnics with feet in the water.
