Le Mas Candille

About this hotel

General information

Le Mas Candille occupies an 18th-century Provençal farmhouse near the village of Mougins. Once known for its olives and vineyards, the estate took its name during the Revolution from a giant cypress visible as far as Cannes — candille, or candillou, is Provençal for “candle”. Republicans met here, Napoleon later stayed with his guard, and from the early 20th century the house became a hotel and a quiet retreat for Parisian businessmen, actors and writers; Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and the Belgian royal family were among its guests.

The buildings stand on a promontory among the cypresses and olive groves of a 4-hectare park, with views across Cannes, the Mougins valley and the foothills of the Alps. Provençal architecture meets modern comfort, antiques and attentive service. There is a Shiseido spa, two restaurants and a bar; three meeting rooms and the park host events, and the hotel can arrange interpreters, photographers, limousines and private jet or helicopter hire.

Location

The hotel lies next to the village of Mougins on the Côte d’Azur, 7 km from central Cannes and 25 km from Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport.

Spa

The Japanese-style Shiseido Spa builds individual programmes around the philosophy of Qi energy. Facilities include a pool, a hydrotherapy pool, a Jacuzzi, a sauna and a gym, five treatment rooms opening onto a Japanese garden, a beauty salon and a boutique. Shiatsu and aromatherapy massages are on the menu, and a personal trainer, osteopath, physiotherapist and Reiki practitioner are on hand.

Sports & leisure

Several golf courses lie close to the hotel, and the spa’s pools and gym are available for swimming and exercise.

Restaurants & bars

The hotel has two restaurants and a bar.

  • Candille — Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant serving Italian and Provençal cooking by chef David Chauvac, with an open terrace in the orangery
  • La Pergola — relaxed poolside restaurant for grills, seafood, salads and light bites
  • Le Mas Terrace — ground-floor bar looking towards Grasse and the Alpine foothills
