About this hotel
General information
The story of Hameau Albert 1er began in 1903, when the railway reached Chamonix and innkeeper Joseph Carrier built a hotel beside it. In 1934 his son renamed it after King Albert I of Belgium, an accomplished mountaineer and regular visitor to Chamonix who died in the mountains. The fifth generation of the Carrier family now runs the hotel.
Set at the foot of Mont Blanc, the property feels like a Savoyard hamlet: two buildings in traditional Alpine style and two standalone chalets in a lush mountain garden. After a day on the slopes or the trails, guests unwind in the spa with its pool and the gym, dine at the two-Michelin-starred Albert 1er or the Savoyard La Maison Carrier, and end the evening in the bar to live music. There is a meeting room for 30, business services, a boutique, contemporary art exhibitions, parking, concierge and laundry.
Location
The hotel is a short distance from the centre of Chamonix, at the foot of Mont Blanc.
Spa
Spa Le Bachal has a heated indoor-outdoor pool, a jacuzzi, a steam room and treatment rooms, with face and body care using Anne Sémonin and Vitaman products.
Sports & leisure
The heated pool runs from indoors to outdoors and has a sun terrace facing Mont Blanc, and the main building houses a fitness centre with a gym and sauna. In summer the area offers mountaineering, mountain biking, horse riding and golf.
Restaurants & bars
Food is the hotel’s particular pride, backed by a cellar of about 19,000 bottles and more than 1,000 labels.
- Albert 1er — two Michelin stars, with chefs Pierre Maillet and Pierre Carrier blending French, regional and Italian traditions
- La Maison Carrier — Savoyard dishes in the setting of an old farmhouse, with wines from the region, the Aosta Valley and the Valais
- Summer terrace — food and wine with views of Mont Blanc
- Quartz — wines, cocktails and aperitifs, with live music in the evening
Skiing
The location opens up downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and sledging, and the hotel has a dedicated room for storing skis and equipment.
