About this hotel
General information
Formerly the Grandes Alpes, the hotel has stood in Courchevel since 1948 and has long been a byword for elegance and understated luxury. It sits at the top of the Three Valleys, above the resort itself, with views reaching the Swiss and Italian Alps and more than 600 km of pistes on its doorstep.
Decades of experience have shaped a new concept: the hotel is now a collection of nine individually designed apartments. There is a Valmont spa, the Japanese restaurant Bizan, Bellini’s Bar, a hair salon and a Lacroix ski shop, and guests can have a private chef for their entire stay, in keeping with the idea of a home away from home.
Location
The hotel is in Courchevel. By car it is about 2 hours 15 minutes from Geneva (149 km), 2 hours from Lyon (187 km), 5 hours from Nice and 5 hours 30 minutes from Paris. Trains from Paris reach Moûtiers-Tarentaise in around four hours, with a bus or taxi for the last stretch; helicopter transfers are also possible.
Spa
The Valmont spa offers relaxing massages, revitalising face and body treatments and a range of water-based therapies.
Sports & leisure
There is an indoor pool and an unusual gym where guests train amid the scent of pine, with fallen needles and leaves underfoot. The hotel works with ski maker Lacroix, which has a shop on site, and there is a hair salon.
For children
Families receive particular attention: staff can arrange in-room childcare, a nanny or chaperone, a guide or a junior ski instructor, and there is a programme of outdoor activities for the youngest guests.
Restaurants & bars
Bizan, led by Toshiro Kuroda, serves Japanese cooking — sashimi, sushi, soups and tasting menus — with a selection of sake. Bellini’s Bar offers spirits, liqueurs, cocktails, Bordeaux and Burgundy, old cognacs and cigars, with limited and collectors’ wines on request. A private chef can be assigned for the whole stay.
Skiing
Courchevel belongs to the Three Valleys, the world’s largest ski area. The Courchevel valley alone has 150 km of pistes and 58 lifts starting close to the hotel: 8 black, 34 red, 35 blue and 19 green runs, plus a Zen zone for beginners.
