About this hotel
General information
Château Saint-Martin & Spa crowns a hill above Vence, between Cannes and Monaco and 12 km from the sea. It takes its name from Saint Martin of Tours, who lived in the area before becoming bishop of Tours. In 1115 the Count of Provence handed the fortress to the Knights Templar, who strengthened its old Roman walls; the drawbridge and gateway from that time still stand, and legend has it that the order’s treasure was hidden here.
Today it is a white Provençal château in the Oetker Collection, a member of Relais & Châteaux since 1970, surrounded by gardens designed by landscape architect Jean Mus. Its 34 rooms are light and airy, furnished with Louis XV and Louis XVI antiques and original works of art. The kitchen is led by Michelin-starred chef Jean-Luc Lefrançois. There is also a chapel for weddings, the Chagall and Matisse meeting rooms for up to 65 guests, an underground garage, a helipad and a boutique.
Location
The hotel lies in the historic part of Vence, 28 km from Cannes and 35 km from Monaco, about 20 minutes by car from Nice International Airport.
Spa
The spa uses Sisley skincare and Bamford’s natural products. It has four treatment rooms (one with a private Sweet Spa Crystal hammam shower), a hammam, a sauna, a multi-sensory shower, indoor and outdoor relaxation areas and a beauty salon. Wraps, gommages, energy work and yoga are on the menu, along with a dedicated line of treatments for men. A Post-Partum programme for new mothers and babies aged two weeks to ten months teaches baby massage and the basics of Ayurveda, with a guide to continue at home.
Sports & leisure
On site there is a large heated outdoor pool, two tennis courts and a gym, with personal training and yoga. Nearby are 9- and 18-hole golf courses (35 minutes’ drive), rafting, canoeing and pedalos, and a yacht or speedboat can be chartered for time at sea. The hotel arranges transfers to a private beach, excursions around Vence, vineyard visits with tastings and tours of historic sites.
For children
Babysitting is available on request, and in July and August there are activities for children.
Restaurants & bars
Food is a large part of the appeal here, with Michelin-starred chef Jean-Luc Lefrançois at the helm.
- Le Saint-Martin — gastronomic restaurant serving classic French cooking, with wines chosen by sommelier Géraud Tournier
- L’Oliveraie — grill among olive trees and roses facing the Baou des Blancs: light summer dishes, salads, fresh fish and grilled meat
- Le Rossini — bar of tapestries and antique furniture, with a pianist on Fridays and Saturdays, cocktails by the fire in autumn and on the terrace in summer
