About this hotel
General information
Le Royal was built in 1896 in the then-fashionable neo-Norman style, next to a park of old pines. Its interiors are the work of French designer Jacques Garcia: antique and contemporary furniture, warm drapes, mirrors of unusual shapes and flower arrangements bring together classical grace and a sense of home, while the windows frame the park and the ocean. The mood is southern Brittany with a touch of British reserve and belle époque charm.
La Baule is known for its thalassotherapy centres, and one of the best known, Thalgo La Baule, adjoins the hotel. Beyond it there is the Royal-Thalasso Barrière health club, two restaurants and a bar, an outdoor pool and a club for the youngest guests. Two function rooms hold up to 100 people, and the Casino Barrière de la Baule is a few steps away.
Location
The hotel is in the resort of La Baule, 5 minutes from the railway station and about 55 minutes by car from Nantes airport; Paris is 460 km away.
Spa
The 3,000 m² Thalgo La Baule thalassotherapy centre offers face and body treatments, mud baths, seaweed wraps, reflexology, shiatsu, relaxation therapy, slimming and anti-stress programmes and help with giving up smoking. The Royal-Thalasso Barrière health club adds a heated indoor pool, saunas, Turkish baths, whirlpools, a gym and a solarium.
Sports & leisure
The hotel has an outdoor pool and bicycle hire. Nearby are the Tennis Country Club Barrière with 29 courts, the Golf International Barrière La Baule, walking trails, horse riding and water sports including catamarans, windsurfing and jet skis.
For children
The Diwi & Co Club looks after little ones from 6 months to 3 years, and there are children’s programmes and dedicated menus in the restaurants.
Restaurants & bars
The hotel has two restaurants and a bar.
- La Rotonde — French and light, health-conscious cooking with an emphasis on seafood
- Le Ponton — relaxed beachside restaurant serving seafood
- La Marie-Louise — ground-floor bar with piano music and views over the gardens and ocean
