About this hotel
General information
The Remote Resort Fiji Islands sits on its own peninsula of some 64 acres in northern Vanua Levu, a former coconut plantation looking out over the Somosomo Strait towards the Rainbow Reef, often called the soft coral capital of the world. This is a boutique resort of just eight freestanding villas and no more than twenty guests, and it can be reached only by boat.
Its appeal lies in privacy, cooking built on local produce and excursions the resort runs itself: snorkelling and diving on the reefs, the waterfalls of Taveuni, a visit to a remote Fijian village. The villas are scattered among coconut palms and tropical gardens, each with a plunge pool and an open ocean view. Stays are all-inclusive and children are welcome from the age of 12; the resort also hosts intimate weddings and vow renewals for two.
Location
The resort lies on Nukuni Bay in northern Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second-largest island, on the shore of the Somosomo Strait, with the nearest Rainbow Reef sites about 10 minutes away by boat. From Nadi International Airport (NAN) a one-hour domestic flight reaches Taveuni or Savusavu; from Taveuni airport it is 20 minutes by car and 30 minutes by boat, from Savusavu airport an hour by car on a partly unsealed road and 15 minutes by boat. Transfers from either airport are included and must be booked at least 24 hours ahead.
Spa
Remote Spa treatments are given in the villa, on its deck or on a spa deck set among the trees above the ocean. The menu draws on Fijian tradition and Pure Fiji products, and every treatment lasts 50 minutes: a massage in the Fijian bobo technique with virgin coconut oil, coconut and sugar body scrubs, a wrap using oil of the dilo, a tree sacred to Fijians, a Pure Fiji facial, and a combination of massage with a mini facial.

For children
Children are welcome from 12 years. Two two-bedroom villas, for four and five guests, suit families; the Royal Retreat takes a rollaway bed for one child, while the Oceanfront Retreats are for two adults only.
Restaurants & bars
All meals are included from arrival to departure: à la carte breakfast, a two-course lunch, a three-course dinner, snacks and picnics. The restaurant and bar are in the Main Pavilion, yet tables move every day — to the beach, the jetty, the fire-pit deck or the villa. The kitchen cooks in wood-fired ovens and in the lovo, the traditional earth oven, using fruit and vegetables from the resort’s own garden and fish from local fishermen; any dietary preference is catered for with advance notice.
Swimming
The main beach of white sand and coral opens onto the Nukuni house reef, which runs the length of the resort for about 500 metres; snorkelling is best two hours either side of high tide. Every villa has its own pool, from the plunge pools of the Oceanfront Villas to 10,000-litre pools at the Retreats; the shoreline in front of the Royal Retreat and the Two-bedroom Oceanfront Retreat is rocky. For picnics the resort takes guests by boat to deserted beaches in the region.
