El Gouna

Chedi El Gouna

About this hotel

General information

Chedi El Gouna is an 82-key resort on the Red Sea shore at El Gouna, set above its own natural cove with a sandy beach. Its low-key façades borrow from the region’s building traditions and settle into the landscape, while some wings climb a hillside that looks out to sea.

Inside, the look is the Asian minimalism the Chedi name is known for: bamboo sliding doors, dark ebony details, pearl marble and a quiet palette of earth tones. Around the buildings are tropical gardens with ponds and lanterns, two large pools, a spa with hammams, a rooftop Japanese restaurant and a beach bar at the water’s edge. The modest scale and an attentive concierge make it a good base for slow days by the sea as well as active ones on the water.

Location

The resort is in El Gouna, a resort town on the Red Sea coast north of Hurghada. Hurghada Airport is 26 km away; the hotel arranges private car transfers, and taxis are also available. Around town, shuttles link the hotels and tuk-tuks run to the kite beaches, Abu Tig Marina and the town centre.

Spa

The spa draws on Asian design. It has four single treatment suites with steam showers, two couples’ suites with whirlpool tubs, two traditional hammams and a relaxation area reserved for spa guests. The menu covers massages, hammam rituals, facials, body treatments and beauty therapies, using Saskia Spa products from Alsace in France and Norshek, a handmade label from El Gouna itself. Treatments are for guests aged 16 and over, and the Prima beauty salon sits within the spa. The fitness centre adds separate saunas and steam rooms for men and women.

Sports & leisure

The Technogym-equipped fitness centre is open around the clock; the yoga studio hosts group and private classes, and trainers lead free group classes, personal sessions and beach boot-camp circuits. Beyond that:

  • stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking from the beach, plus kayak, paddleboard and bicycle tours with the recreation team
  • snorkelling gear, beach volleyball and bocce, free for guests
  • boat trips, snorkelling and diving over the coral reefs, booked through the diving representative or the concierge
  • kitesurfing and parasailing at the schools and stations around El Gouna
  • an 18-hole golf course a few steps away and two more in town – El Gouna Golf Club, Steigenberger Golf and Ancient Sands Golf Club
  • 4×4 desert tours and day trips to Luxor
Restaurants & bars

Four restaurants and bars, plus 24-hour in-room dining. Meal plans can be arranged when booking.

  • The Restaurant – the main restaurant for breakfast and dinner: international and local dishes, Arabic mezze, buffet and à la carte, an open kitchen and a terrace over the pool and the sea
  • Nihon – Japanese and pan-Asian cooking on the rooftop, with a sushi bar and open-air tables facing the sea
  • The Beach House – a beach bar serving Mediterranean plates, salads, burgers, pasta, tacos and cocktails, with loungers, day beds and cabanas
  • The Lounge – an intimate bar by the lobby with a cigar humidor, wines and fine spirits
Swimming

The hotel has a private natural cove beach 250 m long, with loungers, day beds and cabanas at The Beach House. There are two large tropical-style pools – the main pool and a social pool – and a lifeguard-attended toddler pool; the main and toddler pools are heated in winter.
