About this hotel
General information
The St. Regis Cairo is a 36-storey tower rising straight from the bank of the Nile, its windows framing the river and the old quarters of the city. The interiors are a study in Egyptian craft: handmade furniture, wooden mashrabiya screens, jewelled panelling and custom wall coverings, with even the inside of the wardrobes papered in lilies, lotus flowers, birds and the greenery of the Nile's banks.
There are 360 places to stay — 232 rooms, 50 suites and 78 multi-bedroom serviced apartments — which suits a short city break as well as a long family stay. Every guest has the signature St. Regis Butler Service on call day and night, from unpacking to the smallest request. Seven restaurants and bars, a two-floor spa, indoor and outdoor pools and the Astor Grand Ballroom for up to 1,000 guests complete the picture; the ballroom is reached by a glass and alabaster staircase beneath a chandelier of 252,000 Swarovski crystals. In the evening, champagne is opened with a sabre, one of the brand's rituals.
Location
The hotel stands on the Nile Corniche in Boulaq, in central Cairo. The Khan el-Khalili bazaar is about 7 km away, and Zamalek on Gezira Island, Coptic Cairo, the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Giza pyramids are all within easy reach. Cairo International Airport is about 24 km away; there is no hotel shuttle, but a limousine transfer can be arranged on request.
Spa
Iridium Spa spreads over two floors from the sixth floor up and draws on both Eastern and Western traditions. Each visit begins with a drink and a consultation, after which therapists tailor the treatments. There are eight treatment suites, including a couples' suite with two massage tables side by side, along with a vitality pool, an ice room, light therapy, experience showers, a sauna and a steam room. Private spa suites are available for couples and small groups.
Sports & leisure
The St. Regis Athletic Club looks out over the Nile and is complimentary for guests, with Technogym machines fitted with individual screens, cardio and strength equipment, free weights and personal training on request. Beyond the gym there are an indoor pool, an outdoor pool with a whirlpool and cabanas, and the Astor Library on the fifth floor, a quiet room with an antique rug, dark wood shelving and a collection of books and artefacts for a drink in peace. The hotel suggests a sail on the Nile in a traditional felucca, the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, the Coptic Museum, the Museum of Islamic Art, the Great Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza and Saqqara.
For children
The Amulet Children's Club keeps younger guests busy with foosball, PlayStation, crafts and more. A dedicated children's pool sits beside the outdoor pool, and babysitting can be arranged when parents want time to themselves.
Restaurants & bars
Seven restaurants and bars, most with Nile views, plus round-the-clock in-room dining served by a personal butler.
- La Zisa — Sicilian-leaning Italian cooking in a light room of mosaic floors and tiled arches; breakfast buffet and à la carte lunch and dinner
- Il Café Bar — a 24-hour café inside La Zisa for tea, coffee and light meals
- Tianma — contemporary Asian cuisine in a dining room hung with oversized bells and artwork
- J&G Steakhouse Cairo — prime cuts and fish from the grill on the third floor, with floor-to-ceiling Nile views and a private dining room for 12
- Sirocco — Mediterranean restaurant and bar by the seventh-floor pool: juices, ice cream and light bites by day, Egyptian dishes and cocktails on the river-view deck after dark
- The St. Regis Bar — cocktails, champagne, vintage wines and a hibiscus take on the house Bloody Mary
- The Water Garden — a floral setting next to the bar for refined dining, sweets and the St. Regis rituals
Swimming
The mosaic-tiled outdoor pool sits on the seventh floor, surrounded by teak loungers, sunbeds and private cabanas, with a heated whirlpool, a separate children's pool and food and drinks from Sirocco. The indoor pool, set under a vaulted ceiling and tiled in aquamarine mosaic, has floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the city.
Pets
Pets are not allowed.
Rooms
The 232 rooms, 50 suites and 78 serviced apartments all have floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Nile or the old quarters of Cairo. Arabesque detail, oriental rugs, rich wood and mother-of-pearl inlay nod to local craftsmanship, and the layouts feel more residential than hotel-like.
Every room has floor-to-ceiling windows, the signature St. Regis bed, handcrafted furniture, a mosaic-detailed bathroom, Wi-Fi, 24-hour in-room dining, twice-daily turndown and butler service.
