La Maison Bleue El Gouna

About this hotel

General information

La Maison Bleue is a pastel-blue mansion of classical, rational lines on the Red Sea shore at El Gouna, conceived as a house for receiving guests and a base for exploring the town. With only 13 suites it feels more like a private villa than a hotel. The house is a member of Relais & Châteaux and is adults-only, with a minimum guest age of 16.

Inside, it reads like a museum of antique furniture, with pieces going back to the 1700s, original art deco items, an art nouveau fireplace and a restored ceiling rescued from an old Alexandria hotel. Every mosaic colonnade is different, and the walls carry paintings and drawings from many periods alongside sculpture, crystal chandeliers and murals by local artists. The architecture borrows from St Mark's in Venice, the Minoan frescoes of Santorini and Barcelona's Palau de la Música Catalana, while the garden of Egyptian plants is left deliberately a little wild, full of hidden corners.

Location

The house sits at the northern end of Mangroovy beach, beside El Gouna's kite stations, in a resort town on the Red Sea coast near Hurghada. The town is easy to explore on foot, tuk-tuks pass regularly on their way downtown, and the hotel's own boat leaves from its dock.

Spa

The spa has a Turkish bath, a sauna, a steam room and hot and cold plunge pools. Treatments draw on natural ingredients such as clay, algae, avocado and apricot from partner brands Ananné and Nefertari: peels, Thai and hot-stone massages, targeted stress-relief work and rituals inspired by Ayurvedic and Chinese traditions. The wellness team suggests exercise, food and mindfulness plans and can arrange a consultation before arrival.

Sports & leisure

Yoga, movement classes and personal training run through the day, and there is a fitness centre. Beyond the house:

  • outings on Tee, the hotel's small motorboat, for picnics at sea and snorkelling over the coral reefs along the coast
  • several golf courses in El Gouna, laid out among lagoons and peninsulas
  • kitesurfing, windsurfing and boating in town
  • guided hikes into the mountains and a visit to an ancient marble quarry, arranged by the concierge
Restaurants & bars

The kitchen relies on the sea, local farms and the greenhouse at the bottom of the garden. Breakfast is a buffet of fresh breads and pastries, fruit and pressed juices with hot dishes such as eggs to order, served from 7:00 to 12:00.

  • Le Restaurant — a seasonal menu blending French and Egyptian cooking, served on a shaded terrace, in the dining room or in the suite; the chef can personalise a menu
  • Botanica — Mediterranean-inspired cooking at the far end of the garden, supplied by its own hydroponic farm
  • Pool Bar — fresh juices, house syrups, spice and flower bitters, wines, rare spirits, classic and experimental cocktails and a small choice of Egyptian mezze
Swimming

There is an outdoor pool in the garden, and the house opens onto its own lagoon with a beach; the two ground-floor suites step straight out to the lagoon from their terraces. The hot and cold plunge pools are in the spa.
