Yacht La Pinta

About this hotel

General information

Yacht La Pinta is a 64-metre expedition yacht built for the Galápagos Islands, compact enough to reach some of the archipelago’s more remote and fragile visitor sites. Its three decks hold 24 cabins for no more than 48 guests. The crew includes up to four naturalist guides certified by the national park and an expedition leader who shapes each day’s outings; groups ashore average about twelve guests per guide, and most of the sites on its routes are not shared with any other ship.

Life on board is relaxed and modern: a sun deck with open and shaded areas, the open-air Sky Bar, an observation lounge, a natural-history library and an expedition room where guests gear up for landings. A doctor and a well-equipped infirmary are on call around the clock, with consultations free of charge. The yacht runs with a light footprint — an efficient engine, on-board desalination and water treatment, recycling and a carbon-neutral policy.

Location

The yacht cruises the Galápagos Islands. Every voyage begins and ends on Baltra: guests fly in from the mainland to Seymour airport on the island and transfer to the dock to board. Itineraries of four, six and eight nights cover the eastern, northern and western parts of the archipelago — South Plaza, Santa Fe, San Cristóbal and Española in the south-east; Genovesa, Bartolomé and Santiago in the north; Isabela, Fernandina and Floreana in the west — and each one includes the highlands of Santa Cruz and their giant tortoises.

Sports & leisure

Each day the naturalist guides lead guests ashore and onto the water: hikes across lava fields and seabird colonies, snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding, dinghy rides along the cliffs and trips in the glass-bottom boat, all at no extra charge. Evenings bring briefings and talks on the islands’ natural history, and there is a cardio gym on the sun deck.

For children

The yacht suits families well: the four Luxury Plus Cabins take two adults plus a child under 12 on the sofa, and eight of the Luxury Cabins connect in pairs. The range of activities is designed with the whole family in mind.

Restaurants & bars

All meals on board and soft drinks are included; alcoholic drinks are charged separately. Menus are overseen by a gastronomy director trained at Le Cordon Bleu, cater for a range of diets and use local organic produce wherever possible. There is also a coffee station.

  • Dining room — the main restaurant on the Main Deck, with ocean views
  • Bar & Lounge — the indoor bar and lounge
  • Sky Bar — an open-air bar on the Sun Deck
Swimming

There is no pool on board; between landings the hot tub on the sun deck is the place to unwind. Swimming happens in the sea: snorkelling straight from the beaches or from the dinghies, with gear and wetsuits provided free, and a glass-bottom boat for those who would rather stay dry.

Rooms

The 24 cabins — 20 Luxury Cabins and four larger Luxury Plus Cabins at the stern — sleep up to 48 guests; eight of the Luxury Cabins connect in pairs for families or friends travelling together.

In each room

Each cabin has a private bathroom with shower, tall rectangular windows, air conditioning, a safe, a hair dryer, toiletries, and beach and cabin towels.
