Hotel Sanders

About this hotel

General information

Hotel Sanders is an intimate boutique hotel in Copenhagen’s historic centre, set on a quiet cobbled street behind the old stage of the Royal Theatre and the Nyhavn canal. There are just 54 rooms and no two are alike: each is planned around its own proportions and mood, and furnished with bespoke pieces made by local craftsmen as a fresh take on Denmark’s design heritage.

The hotel runs like a large private house, where an evening can drift from the kitchen to the living room, the glass-roofed green courtyard or the fifth-floor terrace above the rooftops, and where guests and locals meet over cocktails at TATA. Sanders holds the international Green Key eco-label; bathrooms are stocked with refillable full-size products from a Danish brand, and single-use plastic toiletries have been retired.

Location

The hotel sits in the old town near Kongens Nytorv, a few minutes’ walk from Nyhavn, the Royal Theatre, Amalienborg Palace and Christiansborg Palace, with the Royal Danish Opera also within a stroll. Restaurants, contemporary galleries, museums and shops fill the surrounding lanes. Copenhagen Airport is 6 km away, and the hotel can arrange a chauffeur to meet guests on arrival (one car for up to two guests). There is no on-site parking, but a valet service parks cars in a secure, enclosed facility nearby.

Spa

There is no spa; massages can be arranged in the room on request, as can hair styling and make-up.

Sports & leisure

The concierge arranges private boat trips reserved for hotel guests: two hours around the harbour and canals aboard a 25-foot vintage mahogany launch (up to 8 people) or a Dutch canal boat trimmed in teak and mahogany (up to 10), with a captain who guides in Danish or English, and a picnic basket with wine or Champagne from Sanders Kitchen if wanted. Other experiences include:

  • a two-hour walk through the neighbourhood’s contemporary art galleries with local curators (up to 5 guests), sometimes meeting a gallerist or artist
  • a three-hour guided walk through the old town, taking in Nyhavn and Amalienborg Palace
  • a backstage tour of the Royal Theatre’s 1874 building, plus help with tickets for ballet, opera or concerts
  • private training sessions, and yoga and Pilates at a partner studio a 10-minute walk away
  • Sanders bicycles to rent
For children

A nanny can be arranged on request to look after children during the stay.

Restaurants & bars

All of the hotel’s spaces are open to guests and locals alike.

  • Sanders Kitchen — all-day restaurant with an international outlook: well-loved classics and lighter dishes built on the best available produce, for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Sanders Courtyard — covered, heated courtyard with plants and a fireplace, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner year-round
  • Sanders Rooftop — planted fifth-floor terrace with city views, all-day dishes from the kitchen, brunch from Friday to Sunday and cocktails created by the TATA team
  • TATA Cocktail Bar — intimate, vintage-tinged bar named after the red velvet curtain of the neighbouring Royal Theatre; classic cocktails, walk-ins only
  • Sanders Living Room — a quiet lounge for coffee, snacks or a glass of wine
