1 Hotel Copenhagen

About this hotel

General information

1 Hotel Copenhagen sits where the Latin Quarter meets the historic heart of the city, a short walk from the Botanical Garden. It is the Danish address of 1 Hotels, a group that shapes its houses around the idea of nature in the middle of town, and the mood here is that of a quiet green refuge: reclaimed wooden planks and brick tiles in the lobby and restaurants, walls finished in low-VOC Scandinavian marble paints and naturally pigmented clays, and living plants in every room.

Care for the environment is built into the house itself. The building is certified LEED Gold and BREEAM Excellent, warmed by the city’s district heating network and powered by renewable Scandinavian hydropower. Rooms use FSC-certified wood, OEKO-TEX cotton and glassware made from recycled wine bottles, and single-use plastic has no place in the rooms, restaurants or bars. Honey from urban hives in the Botanical Garden, a round-the-clock farmstand in the lobby and a Goodthings shop complete the picture.

Location

The hotel stands at Krystalgade 22 in the Latin Quarter of central Copenhagen, with the Botanical Garden close by and Nyhavn and Tivoli Gardens easily reached on foot or by bike. From Copenhagen Airport the M2 metro line reaches Nørreport station in 15 minutes, followed by a five-minute walk; taxis wait outside Terminal 3, and a private transfer can be arranged on request. Guests arriving by car can use the hotel’s valet parking.

Sports & leisure

The Field House, the ground-floor gym, is open around the clock, with Technogym cardio machines, a free-weights area and room to stretch on reclaimed-wood floors; one-to-one sessions with personal trainers are arranged on request. Every Saturday the Copenhagen wellness platform RAVE leads complimentary Pilates, yoga, breathwork and sound-healing sessions for guests in the Oak room, and the programme also includes yoga and meditation on the terrace, monthly sound baths and full-moon rituals, a group run from the lobby every Wednesday and a daily behind-the-scenes tour of the hotel, from its heating system to its design and sourcing stories. Bikes can be rented at the hotel, and the concierge shares cycling and running routes, park picnics, art and culture walks and canal strolls.

For children

There is no kids’ club, but the hotel works well for families: rooms and suites can be booked as connecting combinations for up to eight guests, an extra bed can be added in some suite types, and the concierge suggests family-friendly outings around the city.

Restaurants & bars

Menus follow the Danish seasons and draw on local farmers, fisheries and dairies.

  • PÆRE Dining Room — coastal Italian cooking with Nordic produce, served in waves for sharing: antipasti, handmade pasta and dishes from the grill; breakfast and dinner daily
  • PÆRE Bar — a cocktail bar whose name plays on the Danish words for ‘pear’ and ‘lightbulb’: seasonal cocktails with herbs from the terrace garden, organic and biodynamic wines, bar bites through the day and grab-and-go breakfast in the morning
  • Ember — bar and lounge with a fireside mood and a private dining room for up to 12
  • Terrace — a leafy open-air terrace just beyond PÆRE
  • Lobby Farmstand — a 24-hour stand of seasonal fruit that is imperfect in looks but not in taste

In-room dining is available daily from early morning until late evening, and later on request.

Swimming

There is no pool at the hotel; the team recommends nearby pools and, for the adventurous, a swim in Copenhagen Harbour.

Pets

Dogs are welcome, and other pets can be accommodated by prior arrangement. They must be on a lead or in a carrier in public areas, may join their owners in designated parts of the restaurants and bars (not the gym) and must never be left alone in the room. Pet-free rooms are kept for guests with allergies, and the concierge arranges dog walkers or sitters and points the way to dog parks, grooming salons and pet shops.

Fifteen categories of rooms and suites, from compact Alcove rooms of 19 m² to the Retreat Collection suites of up to 92 m², share a calm palette of reclaimed wood, natural textures and greenery, with views over the inner garden, the streets of the Latin Quarter or the city skyline.
