About this hotel
General information
Grandhotel Pupp is the grand hotel of Karlovy Vary, set on the bank of the Teplá at the point where the old spa quarter comes to an end. Hospitality on this spot reaches back to the early 18th century, when the first assembly halls for spa society were built here. The present complex dates from the late 19th century, and its facades were later unified in a monumental Neo-Baroque style by the Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer.
Its 221 rooms and suites are divided between two buildings: the classic Riverside above the river and Parkside, which faces the wooded hillside. Inside are painted ceilings, stucco, crystal chandeliers, a 15-metre-high Festive Hall and a Neo-Gothic chapel used for wedding ceremonies. The hotel is known for its own patisserie tradition, cooking rooted in Czech recipes and local suppliers, and SPA FRANZISKA, spread over two floors.
Location
The hotel stands at the heart of the Karlovy Vary spa district, on the bank of the Teplá. The colonnades with their thermal springs are 0.5–1 km away along the river, the Imperial Spa 300 m and the town theatre 350 m. A historic funicular runs from beside the hotel up to the Diana observation tower on the wooded hill above town. There is a large attended car park next door, and the hotel arranges airport transfers for a fee.
Spa
SPA FRANZISKA covers more than 1,300 m² on two floors and is reserved for hotel guests. It has a 15 × 7 m relaxation pool with air-massage loungers, a meditation pool with underwater music, a foot-massage pool, a rest area in natural light, a Finnish sauna, a herbal steam room, a steam bath, an ice fountain and a relaxation room. Treatments include massages, traditional Karlovy Vary spa therapies, face and body care, herbal baths and Ayurvedic massages, the last also open to non-residents. In fine weather the Stopka Relax Garden by Dedon opens on the spa roof with loungers, parasols and cooling water mist, and the hotel is also home to the Asklepion Clinic for aesthetic medicine.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre is equipped with Technogym machines, a cardio zone and personalised training programmes. E-bikes and Nordic walking poles can be hired at reception, and the concierge books tee times at Karlovy Vary Golf Resort, where hotel guests receive a reduced green fee. The hills above the spa town are laced with forest paths to lookout towers and pavilions, cycling routes run through the Ohře valley and the UNESCO-listed Krušné Mountains, and there are tennis courts and riding stables close by. The hotel has its own casino, and the concierge helps plan trips to medieval Loket or visits to the makers of Becherovka, Bohemian glass and porcelain.
Restaurants & bars
All of the hotel’s kitchens work with fresh produce from local suppliers and traditional Czech recipes:
- Grandrestaurant — the evening restaurant, with a modern take on classic Czech cooking, a tasting menu and a wine list led by the best Moravian estates
- Malá Dvorana — restaurant and lobby bar open from lunch until late, in a Neo-Baroque hall with a late-19th-century crystal chandelier and a glass bar inlaid with gold leaf; breakfast is also served here
- Café Pupp — café and patisserie serving classic Czech desserts and the house Pupp cake, made to an 18th-century recipe that includes Becherovka
- Becher's Bar — a cocktail bar in the manner of an English club, with signature cocktails, wines and a long list of champagnes

- Meat & Bone Steakhouse — a steakhouse
- Golf Restaurant — the clubhouse restaurant at Karlovy Vary Golf Resort, with a set and a seasonal menu and a terrace overlooking the 18th green
Swimming
The main 15 × 7 m pool, with air-massage loungers, is in the spa alongside a meditation pool with underwater music; on sunny days guests can sunbathe on the terrace on the spa roof.
Skiing
Karlovy Vary lies at the foot of the Krušné Mountains, where ski resorts on both sides of the Czech–German border are 20–50 km from the hotel. The largest has more than 20 km of groomed slopes and dozens of kilometres of cross-country trails.
Pets
Dogs and other animals are accepted by prior arrangement and for a fee. They are not allowed in the Grandrestaurant, Becher's Bar, the spa, the pool or the saunas, and dogs are kept on a short lead in public areas.
