Elysium

About this hotel

General information

Elysium is a large five-star Stademos Hotels resort on the seafront in Paphos, right beside the ancient necropolis known as the Tombs of the Kings. Its palatial architecture unfolds across extensive landscaped gardens, with grand colonnades, mosaics and waterfalls, and with stone, marble and wood worked in a way that recalls the island’s history and crafts. Multi-level pools, an amphitheatre and a secluded sandy cove complete the grounds.

There are 287 rooms and suites, from classic balconied rooms to duplexes, villas with their own garden pools and spacious sea-view suites, some of them for adults only. Five restaurants cover Italian, pan-Asian and Cypriot–Mediterranean cooking, the Opium Health Spa works with ESPA, and there are tennis courts and diving on offer. The resort suits couples and families with children equally well, and its halls and gardens host weddings and business gatherings.

Location

The hotel stands on Queen Verenikis Street, directly on the coast in the historic heart of Paphos, next to the Tombs of the Kings. A coastal promenade runs past the Paphos Lighthouse, the Paphos Mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings to Paphos Harbour, about 10 minutes away by car; the central bus station is 5 minutes away. Paphos Airport is a 25-minute drive and Larnaca Airport 90 minutes. The hotel arranges transfers from either airport, as well as taxis, car hire and limousines; guest parking is free, with valet parking and an electric-car charging point.

Spa

The Opium Health Spa works with the British brand ESPA: personalised facials, massages and holistic therapies, body wraps and rituals, treatments designed for men and express options. Facilities include nine treatment rooms, among them a Thai massage room, a sauna, a steam room, a relaxation room, a hair and barber salon, and manicure and pedicure. A private couples’ spa suite has its own jacuzzi, infrared sauna and showers, and hammam rituals use Charme d’Orient products. Signature treatments include the Opium Spa Ritual of exfoliation, body and scalp massage and a wrap, and the Aphrodite’s Radiance Facial, while the Lifestyle Vitality Programme pairs a nutritionist’s assessment with a tailored meal plan for the whole stay. The indoor pool beside the spa is heated in the cooler months.

Sports & leisure

The Opium Health Club has up-to-date cardio and weight equipment behind floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the pool and gardens, with personal training as well as aerobics, aqua aerobics and Pilates classes. Two floodlit tennis courts come with a resident coach for private lessons, and scuba diving is organised with the Cyprus Scuba Diving Centre. The coastal promenade makes for easy walks and runs to the harbour, live performances are staged in the amphitheatre, and there are several fashion boutiques within the hotel.

Restaurants & bars

Food is central to a stay at Elysium: the kitchens cook with local produce every day, and the venues open on a weekly schedule, so not every one is open every day.

  • Ristorante Bacco — an intimate Italian restaurant with Tuscan touches on the menu

  • Mare Nostrum Pool Bar — cold drinks, pizza and light snacks by the pool
  • In-room dining — round the clock
Swimming

A lavender-lined path leads from the gardens straight down to a sheltered sandy cove. There are three pools: the multi-level outdoor pool at the centre of the grounds, with a hydromassage rotunda; an indoor pool beside the spa; and the sunken Royal Pool in the Megaron, reserved for adults aged 16 and over staying in the Studio Suites and Garden Villa Suites. Children have their own pool with a water slide.
