Anassa

About this hotel

General information

Anassa is a five-star resort on the north-west coast of Cyprus and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. It is laid out like a small Byzantine-style Mediterranean village: whitewashed terraces, a chapel, infinity pools and low-rise buildings step down through gardens of olive trees and bougainvillea to a secluded beach on Chrysochou Bay. The name is ancient Greek for “queen”, and the resort lives up to it with quiet luxury, privacy and attentive service. It is a seasonal resort, open for the summer season.

There are 166 rooms, suites and residences, and every category from the Junior Suite upwards, along with all the villas, has been fully redesigned inside. Anassa suits a romantic escape, a family holiday or an unhurried wellness stay equally well: Thalassa Spa with its thalassotherapy, a kids’ club taking babies from four months, four restaurants and several bars, the Kult designer-fashion boutique and Agora by Kult with Cypriot ceramics, jewellery and crafts. Weddings and celebrations use the Zephyros ballroom, the terraces and the gardens.

Location

The resort sits in the village of Neo Chorio near Polis Chrysochous, above Chrysochou Bay on the edge of the Akamas Peninsula national park. Latchi’s fishing harbour, the starting point for boat trips, is 2 km away, and the Baths of Aphrodite, the Blue Lagoon and the small town of Polis are close by. Paphos airport is 55 km away, Larnaca airport 185 km and Paphos harbour 50 km. The hotel arranges private transfers by sedan or luxury car from any of the island’s main airports on request; car hire is also available, and the grounds have free parking, valet parking and electric-vehicle charging points.

Spa

Thalassa Spa is set among Roman columns and sunlit courtyards planted with fragrant herbs. Its focus is thalassotherapy, using seawater drawn straight from Chrysochou Bay. Facilities include a large heated indoor pool (for guests aged 16 and over), a seawater exercise pool with jets, saunas, steam rooms, an outdoor whirlpool, a relaxation area and a yoga studio. Treatments draw on Subtle Energies, which blends aromatherapy with Ayurvedic principles, Augustinus Bader anti-ageing skincare and Tata Harper rituals, alongside the signature Cypriot Twist ritual, massages, facials, a beauty salon, a hairdresser and a barber.

Sports & leisure

The gym is equipped by Technogym, with yoga, Pilates and personal training on offer, plus private yoga or aqua sessions in the pool of your own suite or villa. There are floodlit artificial-grass tennis courts, a padel court, squash and table tennis, with a coach giving lessons to adults and children. The partner watersports centre on the beach offers waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, sailing with RYA courses, parasailing, diving and snorkelling at the Blue Lagoon, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, jet skis, Seabob and motorboats, as well as yacht charters for day and sunset cruises along the Akamas coast. Mountain, road and electric bikes can be hired, Akamas trails invite hikes, four golf courses lie within a 40-minute drive, and guests can try a pottery session or a Cypriot wine tasting with the sommelier.

For children

Mythos Kids’ Club welcomes children from four months to 12 years in four age groups: Titans (4 months–2 years), Griffins (3–4), Centaurs (5–7) and Tritons (8–12). The air-conditioned club runs six days a week with qualified nannies, and its programme includes swimming, pottery, baking, treasure hunts and archaeology digs, with evening activities for children aged 8 and over in high season. Young guests also have junior sports camps and lessons, children’s spa treatments, early dinner sittings in the restaurants and a playground, and the club’s nannies offer babysitting in the room or around the resort on request.

Restaurants & bars

Bread, cheeses, pastries, jams and sauces are all made in-house, menus cater for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian diets, the restaurants open on a rotating schedule, and in-room dining runs until 1 am:

  • Helios — refined French-Mediterranean cuisine on an olive-shaded sea-view terrace, with live classical music on piano or harp; dinner only, smart-casual dress
  • Basiliko — Asian-Mediterranean fusion by candlelight on a sunken open-air terrace; dinner only, children over 12
  • Amphora — generous buffet breakfasts with house-made specialities, and in the evening Grill at Amphora, an à la carte menu of premium grilled meat and seafood; open-air sea-view terrace
  • Pelagos — open-air poolside taverna with a show kitchen serving Mediterranean seafood, Cypriot meze, salads and handmade pasta; lunch and dinner

Swimming

The gardens run down to a secluded golden pebble beach on Chrysochou Bay, where the sea is usually calm and Blue Bar serves drinks and food to the sunbeds. The resort has two heated outdoor pools — the 430 m² Main Pool and the warmer 85 m² Mosaics Pool — plus the indoor spa pool for guests aged 16 and over; sunbeds, umbrellas and towels are free, and a lifeguard is always on duty at the pools. A number of suites and all the residences have private pools, heated on request.

Pets

Anassa welcomes house-trained, vaccinated, well-behaved dogs of up to 12 kg in the Garden Studio Suite with Sea View, Garden Studio Suite with Private Pool and Sea View, Junior Suite Sea View, Junior Suite with Pool, One Bedroom Suite with Pool and all four residences. On arrival dogs receive a tag, treats and waste bags, there is a turndown treat in the evening, and the concierge can arrange grooming. Dogs stay on a lead in public areas and are not allowed at the pools, on the beach, in the spa or inside the restaurants, but may join their owners at the outdoor restaurant tables. A cleaning charge applies per stay.

Rooms

The 166 rooms, suites and residences are spread between the main building and low-rise garden houses styled as a white Byzantine village; most look out to sea, and a number of suites and all the residences have their own pools. Furnishings are handmade by local craftsmen, and every category from the Junior Suite upwards, as well as all the villas, has fully redesigned interiors.
