General information
Amathus Beach Hotel Limassol is a five-star beachfront resort at Agios Tychonas, on the eastern edge of Limassol, and was the first hotel in Cyprus to join The Leading Hotels of the World. Its modernist building, designed by the American firm The Architects Collaborative (TAC), still looks crisp and contemporary, and it is set in 4,000 m² of mature gardens planted with palms and tropical greenery. Alongside stands the Amathus Residences building, home to suites with their own pools.
The hotel occupies part of the ancient city of Amathus: two archaic-period tombs from the city’s western necropolis survive in the grounds and are open to visitors. Couples, families and business travellers come for the two beaches, the choice of pools, a large spa, the Limanaki seafood restaurant at the water’s edge and well-thought-out services for children. Geothermal and desalination plants cover part of the hotel’s energy and water needs.
Location
The hotel sits on the coast at Agios Tychonas, facing the ruins of ancient Amathus, 9 km (about 10 minutes by car) from central Limassol with its castle and old port. Larnaca Airport is 58 km away and Paphos Airport 69 km, each roughly 40 minutes by road; Nicosia is 69 km. VIP airport transfers can be arranged on request, and drivers have free parking and a valet service.
Spa
The Amathus Spa & Wellness Centre covers more than 1,500 m². It has a large indoor pool filled with heated seawater, whirlpools, a sauna and a steam bath, treatment rooms including two Asian suites, a hydrotherapy bath and a manicure and pedicure room. Treatments use Pevonia and Aromatherapy Associates products; signatures include the three-hour Amathus Royal Experience ritual, a Thai herbal compress ritual, hot stone massage and rituals for couples. The hotel also has a unisex hair salon.
Sports & leisure
Swimmers can choose between the main freshwater outdoor pool, an adults-only area with two seawater pools and underwater music, heated in winter, and a 20 m indoor pool. The Technogym-equipped gym looks out over the pool and the beach (guests aged 16 and over), with Pilates, yoga, interval and functional training and aqua aerobics on the timetable. There is a floodlit tennis court, a padel court and table tennis, and a private path along the beach for walking and jogging. Water sports, jet skiing and diving can be arranged on the beach; bicycles and island excursions are available on request, and there are golf courses nearby.
For children
- Pelican Kids Club for ages 4–12, run full-time by a trained team: a daily programme of educational activities, arts and crafts and film time, an indoor soft-play area, a painting corner and video games
- A room with video and table games for older children next to the club
- Entertainment depending on the number of children staying: a magician, a juggler, musical games and Bricks 4 Kids building sessions
- A family pool heated to 26 °C with two waterslides and a separate 30 cm-deep toddler pool with its own small slide, always watched by two lifeguards
- A family beach with shallow water sheltered by a pier, and in season an inflatable water course on the sea for children aged 6 and over (lifejackets required)
- An outdoor playground shaded by a pine tree, with a wooden pirate ship
- Babysitting on request with advance notice; children’s menus in some restaurants
Restaurants & bars
The hotel has four restaurants and two bars, with room service around the clock:
- Kalypso Restaurant — all-day dining on the pool level, with a buffet breakfast featuring live cooking stations and an international à la carte menu
- Kalypso Gardens — an open-air restaurant between the two outdoor pools, serving themed buffets and à la carte dinners in season
- Limanaki Seafood Restaurant — Mediterranean fish and seafood right on the beach, open for dinner in season
- The Grill Room — a contemporary grill beside the lobby, with prime cuts, fish and poultry cooked in a Josper grill oven, an open kitchen, a sea-view terrace and a considered wine list
- Athina Lounge & Terrace — a cocktail bar off the lobby with a terrace over the sea and gardens, creative cocktails, snacks and live music
- Helios & Fresh Bar — a pool and beach bar for fresh juices, fruit cocktails and snacks served to the sunbeds, plus the garden Fresh Bar for salads, sandwiches, sushi, fruit and homemade ice cream
Swimming
The hotel has two beaches, one of them set aside for families, sheltered by a pier, with shallow water and large umbrellas. Drinks and snacks from the Helios bar are brought to the sunbeds. Besides the sea, guests have the main freshwater outdoor pool, an adults-only area with two seawater pools, the family pool with slides and a 20 m indoor pool of heated seawater.
Rooms
Rooms and suites are decorated in warm sandy gold, brown and cream, and the sea-view rooms have balconies with teak furniture. The Junior Suites with private pools are in the Amathus Residences building, which also holds one- to three-bedroom residences booked separately.
Every room has a bath or shower, a hairdryer, signature bath amenities, bathrobes and slippers, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, individually controlled air conditioning and heating, a minibar, tea and coffee facilities and an electronic safe.
Superior Room Sea View
A room on floors 1–4 with a teak-furnished balcony and panoramic views of the sea and gardens. For three adults or two adults and one child.
Superior Room Inland View
A room on floors 1–4 in warm sand and cream tones, with inland views and no balcony. For three adults or two adults and two children.
Junior Suite Sea View Upper Floor with Private Pool
A sea-facing junior suite on the first floor of the Amathus Residences building, with a bedroom, a sitting area with a sofa bed, a marble bathroom with separate bath and shower and a terrace with its own pool. Up to three adults or two adults and two children.
Junior Suite Ground Floor with Private Pool & Garden
A beach-level junior suite in the Amathus Residences building: bedroom and sitting area with a sofa bed, marble bathroom, furnished terrace with sunbeds, a private pool heated to 26 °C and a small garden, all facing the sea. Up to three adults or two adults and two children.
Luxury Sea View Room
A spacious first-floor room with a balcony over the gardens and sea and a bathroom running the full length of the room, its tub placed right in front of the balcony. A sofa bed allows for two adults and two children.
Family Room Plus Sea View
Two 26 m² Superior sea-view rooms on floors 1–4 joined by a connecting door, each with its own teak-furnished balcony. For two adults and up to four children.
Luxury Suite Sea View
A third-floor suite with a bedroom and living room divided by a sliding door, a marble bathroom with separate bath and shower, a guest toilet and two sea-view balconies. The living-room sofa bed sleeps two children, or three adults in all.
Family Room Plus Inland View
Two 31 m² Superior inland-view rooms on floors 1–4 joined by a connecting door, without balconies. For up to four adults and four children.
One Bedroom Grand Sea View Suite
A third-floor suite with a bedroom, a bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath and separate shower, a living room with dining area and bar, a walk-in wardrobe, a guest toilet and three verandas over the sea and gardens. For two adults; a second bedroom can be added by booking the connecting Superior sea-view room.
Two Bedroom Sea View Suite
A suite on the second or fourth floor with two bedrooms, Cassina furniture, white marble floors, one bathroom with a tub and another with a shower, and three sea-view balconies. Up to four adults and one child or two adults and three children.
