About this hotel
General information
Hotel Villa Dubrovnik is set into the cliffs of the Sveti Jakov area, framed by old pines and facing Lokrum and the Old Town across the water. The building was designed by architect Mladen Frka in 1961 as a residence, became an annex of Hotel Argentina in 1963 and had grown into a small hotel by 1970. In 2003 architects Boris Fiolić and Mira Tadej reworked it as a 55-room design hotel, tucking a rooftop bar beneath its roofs.
During the winter of 2024 Studio Arthur Casas carried out a complete renovation rooted in Dubrovnik's stone tradition: Croatian stone and polished wood, a palette of white, sand and terracotta, furniture by Gio Ponti and Prostoria, and textiles bearing a pattern drawn for the hotel from local folk costume. Work by Croatian painters, sculptors and ceramicists runs throughout the interiors.
Location
The hotel stands on a cliff above the sea at Vlaha Bukovca 6, with Sveti Jakov beach, Orsula Park and the city walls all a short walk away. Dubrovnik Airport is about 20 minutes by the hotel's private transfer.
Spa
Villa Spa has been redesigned with natural materials, soft adjustable lighting and a large living wall of plants. Treatments pair modern techniques with Mediterranean remedies — locally grown immortelle, essential oils, carob scrubs — using Sodashi and local organic skincare, alongside OPI nail care and a Welnamis vibro-acoustic bed for deep relaxation. The spa zone includes a sauna and steam room and is not recommended for children under 16.
Sports & leisure
The heated indoor pool is enclosed in floor-to-ceiling glass and opens onto a sundeck facing Lokrum. The fitness area has modern equipment, with scheduled yoga and Pilates sessions. The concierge arranges private experiences: boat trips to the Elafiti Islands and Mljet, a wine tour of the Pelješac peninsula, a gourmet day in Konavle, Old Town and Game of Thrones walks, a sunrise hike up Mount Srđ, sea kayaking beneath the city walls, and horse riding or buggy safaris in Konavle.
Restaurants & bars
Four venues, each with views of the Old Town and Lokrum.
- Pjerin — the signature restaurant, recognised by the Michelin Guide, serving haute Mediterranean cuisine built on local produce
- Giardino — relaxed lunches from an open-air kitchen on a terrace shaded by century-old pines
- Galanto Bar — a rooftop bar for sunset, with Croatian wines and signature cocktails
- Libero Bar — a quiet indoor-outdoor lounge for tea, smoothies and reading, furnished with pieces by Gio Ponti, Patricia Urquiola and Pierre Paulin
Swimming
Below the hotel lies a hidden beach on a secluded stretch of coast, where snacks and drinks are served with a view of the city. The heated indoor pool is the alternative on cooler days.
