Meneghetti Wine Hotel & Winery

About this hotel

General information

Meneghetti Wine Hotel & Winery is a secluded wine estate deep in the Istrian countryside near the town of Bale. It began as a 19th-century farm, Stancija Meneghetti, set among vineyards and olive groves; after decades of quiet neglect it was rediscovered in the early 2000s and carefully restored as a winery with a boutique hotel. It is a member of Relais & Châteaux.

The winery dates from 2001: 40,000 vines, 700 olive trees of four varieties, and the estate’s own wines, olive oils, brandy and even cigars, blended with master blender Daniel Guerrera. Rooms, residences, villas and a standalone house are spread across grounds where the open-air sculpture exhibition Made for Outdoor stands among the trees and stone. Life follows the land and the seasons — dishes from the organic garden, tastings in the winery and spa rituals with the estate’s olive oil.

Location

The estate lies in south-western Istria near Bale, 20 km from Pula; the recommended approach is via Bale on the E751. It makes an easy base for Rovinj’s old town, the Roman arena in Pula, Cape Kamenjak and Brijuni National Park.

Spa

Meneghetti Spa works with Istrian botanicals: cold-pressed olive oil from the estate, grape extracts from its own vineyards, lavender, sage, rosemary and immortelle. Facilities include a heated indoor family pool open to children at set times, a separate tranquillity pool, a garden spa with an outdoor Finnish sauna and cold plunge, an adults-only zone with sauna, steam and relaxation rooms, an aromatic steam room, a Finnish bio sauna, a lounge with heated waterbeds and herbal infusions, and a light-filled gym.

Sports & leisure

The estate has a private tennis court among the vines, a golf driving range, an outdoor activity zone and complimentary bikes. Guests can tour the vineyards and cellar with a tasting, sample four estate olive oils, picnic among the vines or dine privately beneath old oaks, and take a chauffeured Bentley drive. The concierge arranges truffle hunts, visits to Rovinj, Motovun and Grožnjan, trips to Brijuni, kayaking at Kamenjak and sunset sails in the company of dolphins.

For children

Families can use the spa’s heated indoor pool during dedicated children’s hours, and the residences and villas are designed with families in mind.

Restaurants & bars

Dining on the estate draws on its own wines, the organic garden and seasonal produce from land and sea.

  • Meneghetti Restaurant & Bar — the main restaurant, led by chef Ante Miletić: contemporary Istrian cooking in a garden-to-table spirit, featured in the Michelin Guide and recognised by Gault&Millau
  • Oliveto Restaurant & Lounge Bar — seasonal open-air Mediterranean dining among the olives, overlooking the pool and vineyards
  • Meneghetti Beach Club — beach restaurant and bar serving Adriatic seafood and cocktails
  • Wine Lounge — the winery’s tasting room for the estate’s wines, olive oils and distillates
Swimming

In the warmer months guests have access to the Meneghetti Beach Club, the estate’s seaside outpost with a restaurant, bar and natural beach below; sun loungers, excluding cabanas, are complimentary for hotel guests.
