Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik

About this hotel

General information

Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik sits right on the water a few minutes' walk from the Old Town, its windows turned west towards the city walls and towers. At its heart is Villa Odak, a former royal residence built in 1913, later joined by a more contemporary wing known as The Tower; together they hold 158 rooms and suites. Over the decades the hotel has received royalty and film stars, Queen Elizabeth II and Elizabeth Taylor among them, and a Gallery of Fame inside recalls its best-known guests.

Interiors in The Tower are calm and textural — light oak floors, made-to-measure furniture, wool throws, warm grey lifted by touches of yellow and blue — while the Villa Odak rooms have been restored with their original architectural details intact. Gardens, a beach, three sea-view restaurants and a spa with an indoor pool complete the picture; the hotel is part of the Adriatic Luxury Hotels group.

Location

The hotel lies about 0.6 km from the Old Town — roughly five minutes on foot to the medieval walls — and 22.6 km from Dubrovnik Airport. Transfers can be arranged by the hotel, and valet parking is available for guests arriving by car.

Spa

The 850 m² Wellness Dalmatia spa is built around a 20 × 8 m freshwater indoor pool with two Jacuzzis, alongside a steam bath, Roman bath, Finnish sauna, hot-and-cold experience showers and a relaxation area with heated loungers. There are three treatment rooms and two VIP rooms with their own Jacuzzi, one designed for couples; the menu includes Sisley Paris phyto-aromatic facials and warm-oil massage.

Sports & leisure

Active time is spent in the spa pool, the air-conditioned fitness studio that overlooks it, or on the hotel's beach. The gardens invite unhurried walks, and the concierge can arrange transfers and car hire for trips along the coast.

Restaurants & bars

Three restaurants and a bar, all facing the Adriatic.

  • Prora — the signature à la carte restaurant, set on the shoreline with views of Lokrum and the Old Town
  • Sensus — fine dining with creative, contemporary Mediterranean dishes and a cellar of Croatian wines lining the walls
  • Salin — the main restaurant, serving an international buffet breakfast on a terrace facing the Old Town fortifications
  • Abakus Piano Bar — a year-round sea-view bar for cocktails and light bites, with live music in the evening
Swimming

The hotel has direct access to the beach, where Prora restaurant sits by the water; the spa adds a freshwater indoor pool.
