General information
Rumours Luxury Villas & Spa is a small collection of five villas on the shore of Muri Lagoon on Rarotonga. Each one sits behind the gate of its own courtyard, where rocks spill small waterfalls into a private pool, tropical planting closes in around the walls and broad decks face both the pool and the lagoon. Every villa has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and a barbecue, and the Beachfront Platinum Villa and Rumours Beachfront Villa add a hot spa pool in the courtyard.
The property is designed for adults: guests under 15 are not accepted, so the mood stays quiet and the staff are warm without hovering. A continental breakfast is brought to the villa each morning; there is no restaurant on site, and the team recommends and books tables nearby. The Waterfall Spa belongs to the property and offers villa guests preferential rates.
Location
The villas line the Ara Tapu coast road at Muri Beach, directly on Muri Lagoon. Guests are met at Rarotonga’s international airport with a fresh flower garland and driven to their villa by private transfer, with the return journey arranged the same way. The staff are happy to suggest and book restaurants, island walks and time on the water.
Spa
The Waterfall Spa’s menu covers relaxation and aromatherapy massages, deep tissue work, warm basalt stones, herbal compresses, foot reflexology and a gentle pregnancy massage for the second and third trimesters. The signature is a massage under a Vichy shower with seven adjustable jets. Body scrubs come in ginger and cinnamon, brown sugar and lemon, sea salt with jasmine and vanilla, or crushed almond, alongside seaweed and mineral mud masks, silver and gold-leaf facials and balancing facials for different skin types. Couples have a candlelit room for two, and longer packages run to three and a half hours.
Sports & leisure
Every villa has its own pool, its own kayaks at the lagoon edge and snorkelling gear to use free of charge, with the clear water of Muri Lagoon a few steps from the decks. The staff can arrange a private glass-bottom boat trip on Muri Lagoon, guided hikes through the green interior of the island to its waterfalls, diving and kitesurfing.
Restaurants & bars
There is no restaurant on site. A continental breakfast platter is delivered to the villa every morning, or the evening before for guests heading out early, and dietary needs are catered for with notice. With 24 hours’ warning the team will order an island platter, the Grazing Platter being the favourite. Each villa has a kitchen and a barbecue, and the staff recommend and book restaurants nearby and around the island.
Swimming
The villas sit right on Muri Lagoon: the water is a few steps from the decks of the Beachfront Platinum Villa and Rumours Beachfront Villa and only metres from the Beachside villas. Each villa also has its own courtyard pool fed by a waterfall, with sun loungers and an outdoor dining table.
Rooms
Five two-bedroom villas with private pools in four categories: the Beachfront Platinum Villa and Rumours Beachfront Villa on the lagoon’s edge, and two Beachside villas set slightly back from the water. Every bedroom has a canopied four-poster super king bed.
Air conditioning and ceiling fans, TV, coffee machine, full kitchen with hand-painted Rumours tableware, barbecue, sun loungers, private kayaks, snorkelling gear, free Wi-Fi and free local calls.
Beachfront Platinum Villa
A lagoon-front villa with two bedrooms with canopied four-poster super king beds, two marble bathrooms with circular showers under glass domes, a private cinema with a 2.5-metre screen and a TV that rises from its cabinet. The courtyard holds a pool fed by waterfalls on either side of the entrance bridge, a hot spa pool, outdoor showers and large decks on both sides; sleeps up to five, the fifth on a fold-out bed.
Rumours Beachfront Villa
A villa on the lagoon’s edge with two bedrooms with canopied four-poster super king beds, two marble bathrooms, a shower for two, a canopied daybed and a washing machine. The gated courtyard has a waterfall pool and a hot spa pool, decks face both pool and lagoon, and kayaks wait at the water; sleeps up to five, the fifth on the daybed.
Rumours Beachside Villa One
A villa a few metres back from the lagoon, with no water view but a completely private courtyard, a waterfall pool and decks on both sides. Two bedrooms with canopied four-poster super king beds and two bathrooms with twin-head glass showers; sleeps up to five, the fifth on a daybed.
