General information
Pacific Resort Rarotonga spreads across 5.5 acres of tended gardens right on Muri Beach, with the turquoise Muri Lagoon as its backdrop. A full-service resort, it has 64 studios, suites and villas in a contemporary Polynesian style, some set among the greenery and others opening straight onto the sand. Garden paths link everything, and the restaurant, bar, pool and beach are only a few minutes' walk apart.
It suits couples, friends and families alike, with a complimentary kids' club, a separate children's pool and two- and three-bedroom villas with full kitchens. Days here are simple and unhurried: kayaking and snorkelling in the lagoon, a lounger by the pool, a massage at Pacific Lounge, then dinner in the garden at Sandals Restaurant or a cocktail at the beachside Barefoot Bar. Reception is staffed around the clock.
Location
The resort sits directly on Muri Beach on Rarotonga, close to the cafés, restaurants and small shops of this part of the island. Rarotonga's international airport is roughly a 15–20-minute drive away. Airport transfers are run by the resort's partner transport company and should be booked at least three days before arrival; taxis wait at the airport and rental cars can be collected there, and there is a car hire and tours desk at the resort itself.
Spa
There is no full spa: massages are given at Pacific Lounge, next to reception. The menu covers relaxing and restorative massages, foot massages, and nail care. Appointments are essential, and treatments are open to non-residents too.
Sports & leisure
Muri Lagoon on the doorstep sets the pace:
- complimentary kayaks and water equipment for paddling across the lagoon and snorkelling in the clear water off the beach
- kitesurfing on Muri Lagoon with local operators offering lessons and gear hire; the best winds blow from May to October
- a swimming pool set in tropical gardens
- a self-guided walk through the resort's gardens, introducing their native and introduced plants
- an on-site tours desk and car hire, with help arranging bicycles from local hire firms for exploring the island
There is no gym on site, but the team can point guests to local ones.
For children
Pacific Kids Club is free for guests and takes children aged 6 to 12; younger ones can join in with a parent or carer. The programme changes daily: dancing, weaving baskets and flower garlands, husking coconuts and making coconut cream, crab races, beach games and swims in the lagoon. Toddlers have their own children's pool, and babysitting can be arranged at extra cost.
Restaurants & bars
Sandals Restaurant seats guests in the tropical garden or in an open-air courtyard looking over Muri Lagoon. It serves a tropical breakfast in the morning and an all-day menu from 11.00 to 21.00, built on local produce, with fresh fish and seafood, Pacific flavours alongside familiar classics, and vegetarian dishes. Barefoot Bar stands right by the beach for tropical cocktails, daily specials and views across the lagoon. Room service is available to resort guests.
Swimming
The resort opens straight onto the white sand of Muri Beach, with loungers and beach towels; the lagoon here is calm, and swimming is possible at any tide. Beside the gardens are an adults' pool and a separate children's pool, and complimentary filtered-water stations stand at the pool and the beach hut. The pool and beach area are reserved for in-house guests.
Rooms
The 64 studios, suites and villas, in a contemporary Polynesian style, sit among the gardens or on the beachfront of Muri Beach, ranging from snug studios for two to two-level, three-bedroom villas for seven.
Every room has air conditioning and ceiling fans, a Samsung smart TV, free unlimited Wi-Fi, a telephone, USB charging, a safe, a hairdryer, a mini-fridge, tea and coffee, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower; in most categories the bed can be set up as two singles, and guest laundries are close by.
Premium Beachfront Suite
An open-plan suite on the Muri Beach front with a super king-size bed and a Nespresso machine: ground-floor suites step straight onto the sand, first-floor ones have a private balcony looking over the lagoon and the motu. For two guests, three at most.
Premium Beachfront Villa (3 Bedroom)
A standalone two-level villa on the beach with two bedrooms downstairs and an open loft bedroom upstairs, two super king-size beds and two singles, two bathrooms, a lounge, a full kitchen with a Nespresso machine, its own laundry and a courtyard with a barbecue for hire. Up to seven guests.
Premium Lagoon View Villa (3 Bedroom)
A standalone two-level villa a few steps from the white sand of Muri Lagoon: two bedrooms downstairs and a loft bedroom upstairs, two super king-size beds and two singles, two bathrooms, a large sitting area, a kitchen with a Nespresso machine, its own laundry and a courtyard with a barbecue for hire. Up to seven guests.
Premium Garden Villa (2 Bedroom)
A garden villa with two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom (a super king-size bed in one, two singles in the other), a full kitchen with a Nespresso machine and a covered dining area in a private courtyard, with a barbecue for hire. For four guests, five at most.
Premium Family Room (Open Plan)
An open-plan room with two sleeping areas, a super king-size bed and two single beds, and two private garden patios, steps from the adults' and children's pools. Up to four guests.
Studio Room
A snug studio in a two-storey block among tropical gardens, with a super king-size bed and a balcony upstairs or a patio on the ground floor; the restaurant, pool and beach are a short stroll away. For one or two guests.
Premium Garden Suite
An open-plan suite among the greenery at the heart of the resort, with a sleeping area with a super king-size bed, a living area and a furnished patio. For two guests, three at most.
Family Room
A garden room with an open-plan bedroom and lounge with a super king-size bed and a separate bedroom with two single beds, plus a balcony or patio. For three adults, or two adults and two children aged 11 and under.
